Janis Ian (born April 7, 1951[1]) is a Grammy
Award-winning American songwriter, singer,
multi-instrumental musician, columnist, and
science fiction author. She had a successful
singing career in the 1960s and 1970s,
recording into the 21st century. Ian
currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

ジャニス・イアン (Janis Ian,
1951年5月7日 - )
は、アメリカ・ニューヨーク州出
身のシンガーソングライター。東
欧ユダヤ系出身。
1960年代後半、「ソサエティーズ
チャイルド」でデビュー。人種
別批判を歌った衝撃的な内容と
もに、未だ10代の天才少女として
騒がれる。しかし、そのプレッシ
ャーから数枚のアルバムを発表後
、半ば引退状態となる。
その後、カメラマンと結婚、離婚
。
やがて、1972年にロバータ・フラ
クにより「ジェシー」が取り上
られたことから再び脚光を浴び
1974年にコロンビアレーベルより
ルバム『スターズ』で復帰。翌1
975年にジャズと室内音楽の色濃い
シングル「17才の頃」が全米キャ
シュボックス誌でNo.1になる。ア
ルバム『愛の回想録』も全米No.1
なり世界的にヒット。グラミー
も獲得し、時の人になる。
とりわけ日本とヨーロッパでは絶
大な人気を誇り、1976年のアルバ
『愛の余韻』はシングル「恋は
目」が大ヒットしたこともあっ
、日本の洋楽アルバムチャート
半年間に渡って首位を記録した
さらに翌年1977年のアルバム『奇
の街』に収録されたシングル曲
Will You
Dance?」が、TBSドラマ『岸辺のアル
バム』の主題歌に使われた。家庭
崩壊を描いたシリアスドラマに彼
女の優しい歌がよくマッチし、ア
ルバムは日本だけで100万枚を超え
るセールスを記録した。
1978年には来日し、日本独自規格
2枚組ライブアルバムが作られた
また、1980年には角川映画『復活
日』で「ユー・アー・ラヴ」が
ーマ曲として使用され、オリジ
ル・サウンドトラックとしてEPレ
コードも発売された。
2003年、同性愛者であることをカ
ングアウト。長年のパートナー
った女性マネージャーと正式に
婚して大きな話題を呼んだ[1]。
代表曲に他に「フライ・トゥー・
ハイ」などがある。
日本の歌手・アンジェラ・アキの
ファンであり、彼女のインディー
ズアルバムとデビューシングルに
コメントを寄せており、現在では
いわゆるメル友であると言う。ま
たアンジェラ自身もジャニスの楽
曲「Will You
Dance?」をカバーしている。
