Parts One-Seven: The term "sacred activism"
is taking on new meaning as the crisis of our
global situation intensifies. Between a
massive population explosion all over the
planet, and increasing water shortages, how
do people sleep at night? Global warming, at
this stage, is a reality and concern for
millions of people. Mystical scholar, poet,
and author of over 30 books, Andrew Harvey
defines the various aspects of our current
predicament and also a path towards planetary
healing. Harvey, in this clip, introduces
both his hope for humanity and also what he
calls the "birth of the divine feminine" and
the challenge it presents humanity to live in
a totally new way.

Undocumented immigrants who are students at
UC San Diego reveal the obstacles to higher
education that many in their community face
as they call on Congress to pass the DREAM
Act, which if enacted, would give the
eligible students temporary legal residency,
access to financial aid and potential for
employment during school and after

Berwyn, IL - November 2, 2007. Over 70
students participated in a sit-in against the
Iraq War on All Saint's Day, Thursday, Novem
Berwyn, IL - November 2, 2007. Over 70
students participated in a sit-in against the
Iraq War on All Saint's Day, Thursday,
November 1st. It began third hour when dozens
of students gathered quietly in the lunchroom
at Morton West High School and refused to
leave. The administrators and police became
involved immediately and locked down the
school for a half hour after class ended.
Students report that they were promised that
there would be no charges besides cutting
classes if they took their protest outside so
as not to disturb the school day. The
students complied, and were led to a corner
outside the cafeteria where they sang songs
and held signs while classes resumed.
Despite a police line set up between the
protestors and the student body, many other
students joined the demonstration. Organizers
say they chose November first because it is
the Christian holy day called the feast of
All Saints and a national day of peace. They
wrote a letter and delivered it to
Superintendent, Dr. Ben Nowakowski who was
present at the time, stating the reason for
their protest.
Deans, counselors and even the Superintendent
tried to change the minds of a few, mainly
those students with higher GPA scores to
abandon the protest. The school called the
homes of many of the protestors. Those whose
parents arrived before the end of school and
took their students home, or left before the
protest ended at the final bell, received 3-5
days suspension. All others, an estimated 37
received 10 days suspension and expulsion
papers. Parents report that Nowakowski stated
those who are seventeen will also face police
charges.

Parents who are frantically trying to spare
their child's expulsion flooded the school
yesterday to file appeals on the matter. So
far, Superintendent Nowakowski has held firm
on the punishments. They are expected to find
out the results of the appeals on Tuesday.
Parents and students report and the school's
videotape shown to some of the parents
confirms that the students were non-violent
in their action and there was no damage to
property.
The protest came on the heels of a recent
incident on October 15th, when a student
reported hearing that another student had a
gun on campus. The story of the eyewitness
was deemed unreliable and the school was not
locked down. Later that week (October 19),
the Berwyn police, acting on a tip arrested
one of the youths originally questioned for
gun possession and he allegedly confessed to
carrying an unloaded semi-automatic handgun
that day. All these issues, plus the expected
announcement of whether uniforms will be
established in the school should make the
next Board of Education meeting on Wednesday
at 7:00pm at the Morton East campus very
well-attended.

Megan Meier-- who had a history of attention
deficit disorder and depression-- hanged
herself on October 6th, 2006. She died
the following day. The teen committed
suicide shortly after receiving cruel
messages on MySpace from a boy named Josh
Evans. But weeks after Megan's death, her
family found out Evan's online profile was
allegedly made up by a neighbor. It's
believed Lori Drew helped create the account
to find out if Megan was talking about her
own child. Drew's lawyer previously
denied the claims, but his client has since
been indicted.22;55SOT: SHE KNEW ABOUT THE
ACCOUNT, SHE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON. AND IT
WAS A JOKE, IT WAS FUNNY. AGAIN, I DON'T
BELIEVE SHE KNEW MEGAN WOULD COMMIT SUICIDE
BUT WHEN YOU DO THESE TYPES OF THINGS, THIS
CAN HAPPEN. Tina Meier says her daughter
was a real girl, with real dreams. And
she hopes by sharing her story no other
family will have to endure the pain that her

Good afternoon everyone -- my name is Glenn
Curtis -- and I am a director in the
Strategic Research Group at Thomson Financial
in New York.
For those unaware of my group -- STRATEGIC
RESEARCH -we focus on and study a variety of
corporate governance issues ranging from
executive compensation, director liability,
crisis communications, and a variety of other
subjects that traditionally appeal to IROs
and the C-Suite.
SOME OF MY RECENT REPORT TOPICS INCLUDE: CEO
SUCCESSION PLANNING, BOARD EVALUATIONS,
DIRECTOR LIABILITY, AND THE EVER POPULAR
"WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR STOCK BLOWS UP"
Today however, I am here to talk to you about
shareholder activism -- and more specifically
instances of activism that occurred in 2007.
Recently I completed a report detailing
activism activity between the first and the
third quarter.
The report details activist situations that
took place specifically from January through
September 2007. The source for this data was
Thomson's SDC Platinumâ„¢ data- base, the
SEC, and various press releases.
And Here are some highlights:
Between January and September 2007 activists
attempted to exert their influence at 53
public companies. While some situations have
not been resolved to date, 39.6% of instances
have been resolved in the activist's favor,
while just 20.8% have been resolved in the
target company's favor. This is essentially
consistent with a study that we completed in
the 2001 to 2006 time frame.
Some other interesting data from the Q1 to Q3
study:
The most common demand made by activist firms
was for board seats. • The average target
size in terms of market capitalization was
$8.49 billion. • Also - Companies engaged
in the manufacturing and distribution of
electronics and software were among the most
popular targets. In fact 34% of all targets
encompassed this group. • Companies
within the financial industry were also large
targets. One of the reasons for this might be
that these types of companies continue to
have valuable assets on their balance sheets
in spite of the looming credit crunch. The
recent decline in share prices of the major
banks and lending institutions may also be
behind the recent interest in the group.
• While several well-known activist firms
have engaged in some sort of activism over
the last nine months, Carl Icahn and entities
controlled by Icahn appeared to be the most
active.
Other well known activists that made
headlines during this time were:
Pershing Square: Two activist situations. One
ongoing and one successful. •Riley
Investment Management LLC: Two activist
situa- tions. One successful. One ongoing.
•Harbinger Capital Partners: Two activist
situations. One success. One failure.
•Oliver Press Partners: Two activist
situations. Both ongo- ing. •Ramius
Capital Group: Two activist situations. One
suc- cess. One ongoing. • While private
equity firms and hedge funds have tended to
be the most common activists, mutual funds
and individual investors are starting to get
in on the action. In fact, T. Rowe Price :
The well known mutual fund made a stand
earlier in the year opposing a deal to take
Laureate Education private. It failed.
Also - Erik Jackson -- and individual
investor made headlines: Jackson owned less
than 100 shares of Yahoo, yet he led a push
to oust Yahoo's chief executive, Terry Semel.
Now Semel eventually stepped down. And while
there are a number of reasons behind his
departure (above and beyond the activist
movement), Jackson is credited with stirring
up a grass roots movement for his ouster.
• Finally Perhaps not surprisingly,
cash-strapped construction companies and
builders were targeted the least by activist
shareholders so far during 2007.
