VPG-DVD-137 - RABAT
Rabat is the capital of Morocco and also its
royal seat of power. The main residence of
King Mohammed the Sixth is a fascinating
modern metropolis. Along with its monumental
works of art the fourth oldest of the Makhzen
cities is also one of Morocco's most
important.
Cafés and workshops reflect daily life and
most of the city's souks are divided into
specialised areas with items such as leather
goods, blankets and carpets for sale: and
with a little haggling it's possible to
purchase quality handicrafts at a very modest
price!
The Kasbah Des Oudaias was built by Yacoub El
Mansour in the 12th century. It is located at
Rabat's most elevated point and is like a
village within the city. The eight metre high
wall once protected the Kasbah and its
inhabitants and the fortress is inhabited to
the present day.
Barred windows create an Andalusian ambience.
The Kasbah is one of the most popular though
most expensive addresses in Rabat.
Throughout the centuries the Moroccan coast
was dominated by pirates but the might of
European colonialists put an end to their
dubious activities.
The mausoleum of Mohammed the 5th was built
in 1967 and the tomb complex contains a
mosque, a mausoleum and a small memorial that
contains images of the king.
At the end of the 12th century Yacoub El
Mansour constructed the largest mosque in the
Maghreb. At a height of sixty metres its
minaret was taller than any other in North
Africa. Four hundred columns support the
prayer room and it has fourteen gates.
Rabat is a fascinating capital city and royal
residence. An exotic world that lies between
both occident and orient. Tags : RABAT Morocco Maghreb travel |

 |
Fantoche Ben Arafa.
Pragmatique
jusqu'au bout, le Glaoui." AHMED RAMI

| TRAITOR & AMAZIGH |
 |
Denial of civil and political rights of
Amazighs After a decisive contribution to
liberate the country from colonial domination
French and Spanish in the last century, the
Berbers of Morocco, who thought they had
gained their independence, realize they are
still deprived of their freedom and their
rights, even the most essential. They
continue to be colonized, this time from
within, by their own fellow citizens, those
who do conceive Morocco exclusively Arab and
Islamic. Taking advantage of the sense of the
legendary hospitality of the Amazigh and
manipulating the Muslim religion for purposes
of political hegemony, the small minority
arabonationaliste eventually build its
domination over the country and has given the
political, economic, legal, institutional
ideological and guaranteeing the continuity
of his absolute power. The Forum Equity and
Reconciliation Commission (IER), set up in
2003, to repair the damage suffered by the
victims of violations of human rights during
the reign of the late Hassan-II, saw its role
limited to a simple material damages , in the
form of distribution of some subsidies for
the victims. But forgiveness and
reconciliation achieved through recognition
by the government of acts of violations of
human rights, the pursuit of the
perpetrators, the public apologies to victims
and the solemn commitment of the highest
authorities to prevent such actions happen
again. The credibility and effectiveness of
this body would also require the state, at
all levels, immediately and permanently cease
its actions today violate human rights.
Without respect for these considerations, nor
fair, nor the sincerity of the state are
established and therefore confidence can be
achieved. This has already led to the
movement Amazigh activists arbitrarily
detained in 1994 for publicly claimed the
right to teach their language, to refuse
financial compensation offered to them by the
IER. The justice and dignity are not always
cash. On the other hand, if there really
desire for national reconciliation, it must
involve the search for the truth about all
the events as they occurred, but without any
cases of abuse, including the less worthy.
However, to date and to our knowledge, the
bloody events suffered by the people of the
Rif region (northern Morocco) in 1958/59 and
1984, events in the southeast in 1956
suffered by Addi - Ou-Bihi and his
companions, the assassination of Abbas
Msaadi, leader of the Liberation Army, as
well as the arbitrary arrests of Amazighs the
Middle Atlas in 1973, remain ostracized. The
Makhzen, IER and the Advisory Council on
Human Rights also remained silent on Enforced
of Lakhssassi El-Madani in 1956 and Boujmaa
Hebbaz in 1981. Today, more than ever, the
Amazigh aspire to live in freedom and
dignity. They want to enjoy their land and
natural resources and their own identity
attributes. Their right to
self-determination, it is for them the right
to existence, respect and empowerment in the
framework of a democratic federal state of
Morocco which would enable them to pursue
their economic, social and cultural
development . From these facts, it follows
that the Moroccan State violates the
provisions of international law requiring
that: "All peoples have the right of
self-determination. By virtue of that right
they freely determine their political status
and freely pursue their economic, social and
cultural development ". Tags : amazigh berbere morocco usa un algeria terrorisme islamism arabism marrakech attentat tamazight cultur humain |
