failure at a hospital in Santa Monica, Calif.
Carlin is perhaps best known for his 'Seven
Words You Can Never Say On TV' routine. (June

both halves of the word it's perfectly fine.
But you can't advertise either one of the
words if you break those words in half.To the

With his often biting insights on life and
language, George Carlin was known as the dean
of counterculture comedians ---His legendary
"Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine
took on a life of its own ---Carlin refused
to give in to censors, continually pushing
the envelope throughout his career.In 1972,
when he uttered all seven words from his
famous bit at a Milwaukee show, police
arrested Carlin...Charging him with
disturbing the peace. SOT -- CarlinOn Sunday
afternoon -- the veteran comic went to a
hospital near his Santa Monica home,
complaining of chest pain.Later in the
evening --- according to his publicist---
Carlin died of heart failure.His death comes
just months before he was to be awarded the
annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.He
had performed as recently as last weekend in
