| Sir Arthur C Clarke: 90th Birthday Reflections |
 |
The world's best known writer of science
fiction, Sir Arthur C Clarke was the first to
propose satellite communications in 1945. One
of his short stories inspired the World Wide
Web, while another was later expanded to make
the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which he
co-wrote with director Stanley Kubrick. He
has lived in Sri Lanka since 1956.

| Sax No End - Clarke/Boland Big Band |
 |
Based on the changes for 'Chinatown', here's
a 1968 recording (slightly abbreviated -
live, it could go on for 20 minutes) of
Francy Boland's 'Sax No End', featuring one
of the best saxophone sections of any jazz
orchestra ever. Soloists in order are: Johnny
Griffin, Tony Coe, Ronnie Scott, Sahib Shihab
& Derek Humble. The solos are great, but just
wait for the soli section where all five play
as one. Having Kenny Clarke and Kenny Clare
behind you helps a bit too... Tags : sax no end jazz clarke boland coe scott shihab griffin humble |
