| European colonialism; Africa: slavery |

Centuries of European colonization in Africa,
including a transatlantic slave trade that
lasted well into the 19th century, came to an
end as African countries gained their

| Colonialism in 10 Minutes: The Scramble For Africa |
 |
An excerpt from the film Uganda Rising
showing in a (very!) brief overview the utter
decimation of Africa that took place via
colonialism and the so-called "Scramble For
Africa."
Despite the film's focus on Uganda, I think
this excerpt sheds light on just how much of
the violence that we see today actually has a
colonial/European precedent rooted in
exploitation and racism.
It's also an instructive lead in, I think, to
Darfur in 10 Minutes: An Overview of the
Conflict in Sudan.
Uganda Rising was produced by Alison Lawton.
It was directed by Jesse James Miller and
Pete McCormack (me). Jesse also edited the
film, and I wrote it.

| Economic Colonialism - India |
 |
Nov 1995
Cheap labour and the end of archaic
restrictions have spawned a new
entrepreneurial era.
In Bombay's factories, thanks to foreign
investment, they are finally carting away the
Dickensian machinery of the British Empire.
But Hindu fundamentalists denounce this as
'economic colonialism' and are as keen to
expel the multinationals from India as they
are to quash the minority Muslims. At a Hindu
festival, extremists excite racial and
religious tensions as crowds of young Hindus
wheel a freshly painted effigy of Ganesh, the
traditional vanquisher of foreign foes, into
the Arabian sea. In the quiet village of
Veldur where buffaloes loll in the waves,
fishermen moan about a new site for ENRON, an
American multinational. Dependent on mangoes,
fish and cashew nuts, villagers dread the
devastation associated with industrial
development. This local discontent is one
more political skirmish in the battle for
India's commercial future. Despite widespread
social tension, India's leaders have decided
that foreign investment is indispensable. As
India mobilises to catch up with the West,
Veldur will become the first casualty of
many. Tags : Economic Colonialism Mumbai Cheap labour Muslim Hindu Industrial Action Protest |

Russell Means explains Colonialism by the
Imperial Power (World Order). It is not NEW
World Order because it was first perfected on
Indian Reservations. It is now being forced
on everyone. Economic development is banned,
outsourcing and our money is being sent to
China India Saudi Arabia... and it is
disabling our society. We have switched
from a productive society to a consumer
society.
The Imperialists created Reservations, then
Hitler copied the idea and created
concentration camps, now they are creating
American Concentration camps. HR 1955 & S
1959 (Homegrown Terrorism) laws will make
this possible if passed.
The Medicine man, Floyd Looks For Buffalo
Hand, warns of upcoming martial law being
declared right here in the US. Bush is
already setting up detention centers in the
US. He has snuck in law to make him a
dictator and he will be able to suspend the
2008 elections. These prophesies can be
stopped. It is a glimpse of what the future
holds, think of it as a warning. But you can
stop it, spread the word. Knowledge is
power.
The Bush administration has released a
directive called the National Security and
Homeland Security Presidential Directive -
Directive NSPD 51/HSPD 20 . The directive
released on May 9th, 2007 has been hidden
from us. Search youtube bush dictator... or
search for: NSPD 51/HSPD 20 In this
directive, Bush declares that in the event of
a "Catastrophic Emergency" the President will
be entrusted with leading the activities to
ensure constitutional government. The
language in this directive would in effect
make the President a dictator in the case of
such an emergency. The directive defines a
"Catastrophic Emergency" as the following.
"Catastrophic Emergency" means ANY incident,
regardless of location, that results in
extraordinary levels of mass casualties,
damage, or disruption severely affecting the
U.S. population, infrastructure, environment,
economy, or government functions... If we
bomb Iran, or the next president is
assassinated (before inauguration), an
economic depression, a natural disaster,
riots... any trigger could be called a
Catastrophic Emergency and Bush would declare
martial law and remain in power for an
undetermined length of time. Department of
Homeland Security has a $385 million contract
with Halliburton to build temporary detention
facilities. Search Youtube for American
Concentration camps or search: rex 84
operation garden plot. Bush pardons himself
of war crimes and now he is trying to suspend
the 2008 elections and declare himself a
dictator. Search Youtube, Google it. Spread
the word and stop him!

This is a response to Jay Joseph Smith video
called "Islam for the Arabs but Christianity
for the World.
In this video Inshahallah, we shall prove
that Islam wherever it went it brought
progress and learning, and great empires were
founded based on Islam's teachings, whereas
Christianity was used as an imperialist tool

-The Corporate world taking part in the
destruction.
- The context of the massacre video: The
video where you see french troops shoot on a
crowd of Ivorian civilians.
The context is as follows; in 2004 the French
troops that had been in the Ivory Coast for a
while, were stationed at the Hotel Ivoire of
Abidjan in a state of alert. This was
happening in the midst of anti-French riots.
These riots started when the Ivory Coast air
force bombarded mistakenly or not a French
base located in rebel held areas thereby
killing rebels and half a dozen French
soldiers. France retaliated by destroying the
only helicopters this African country had.
Ivorian youths went on to lash out violently
on any European they encountered thereby
sparking a panic among the Euro population.
Thousands of them left the country. The
French army was retrenched with the remaining
European civilians in the commercial area of
Abidjan where Hotel Ivoire is located. The
French tried to protect the area by shooting
from helicopters onto angry crowds of Ivorian
youth killing several people.
Ivorians became more alarmed when they heard
that the French were stationed at this
particular hotel that is not far from the
presidential palace. Those who know about
French politics in French speaking Africa
this could appear as a threat. Until 90's
France had the habit of removing and placing
political regimes according to its interests
in countries that it considered to be its
property (the "pre-carre"). For the Ivorian
public this was a sign that the French were
about to get rid of their president. They
came in numbers in front of the hotel to
protest against the French presence. A couple
of hours within this stand off the French
troops, who had almost left the Hotel with
their European civilians, opened fire on the
crowd.
According to a statement issued by the French
military they opened fire because shots were
fired at them from the crowd. The Ivorian
officials denied this stating that the
civilians were unarmed.
I cannot confirm that the Ivorian regime had
hired hot headed youth to stir up trouble or
that the French were trigger happy racists,
the video is not conclusive to back up either
side. What is certain to me however is that
this was a violation of the law of
sovereignty and a totally disproportionate
response that has costed the lives of
innocent people who exercised their right to
protest. Tags : neo colonialism killings |
