Harkonnen and Atreides have co-existed safely
apart for as long as two Great Houses can. At
the Emperor's absolute invitation, the two
families meet again. However, the Emperor's
ball is more than a social occasion, for
there is much dissent in the Empire and calls
for new leadership have begun to rise above
the masses. Another Great House, no longer
Corrino, should step up. Irulan, a Corrino
with little love for her father, would have
no objection to it being the Harkonnens. Yet
her plans are foiled when a verbal argument
between the Baron and Lady Jessica leads the
plotters to misfire. Irulan's son understands
the proceedings as more of an insult
perpetrated by his family onto the Atreides
and without consulting his parents, he offers
his formal apology on the Atreides homeworld
- where he finds a kindred spirit in Alia's
daughter.
Background information: Jessica didn't betray
her Sisterhood and had a daughter, Alia. Come
of age, the Atreides heiress is to be wed to
the Harkonnen heir to end the feud between
the houses.
