| Border Crossings/ Cruzando Fronteras |
 |
Border Crossings/Cruzando Fronteras touches
on crucial issues that surround the increased
militarization of the U.S./Mexico border. The
United States Border Patrol, now part of the
new formed Department of Homeland Security,
has a history of abusing its power. Examples
of this abuse range from sexual assault to
unnecessary use of deadly force. It is also a
widely ignored fact that the U.S./Mexico
Border divides many indigenous nations such
as the Tohono O'odham, Yaqui, and Navajo.
This prevents many people from performing and
attending traditional ceremonies and
activities. Border Crossings exposes the
U.S./Mexico border as the true alienator,
dividing two nations that have thousands of
years of migration history. Tags : us mexico militarization migra border crossing migration indigenous |

| Rough Crossings - Simon Schama Speaks at Google |
 |
"Rough Crossings" is the astonishing story of
the struggle to freedom by thousands of
African-American slaves who fled the
plantations to fight behind British lines in
the American War of Independence. With
gripping, powerfully vivid story-telling,
Simon Schama follows the escaped blacks into
the fires of the war, and into freezing,
inhospitable Nova Scotia where many who had
served the Crown were betrayed in their
promises to receive land at the war's end.
Their fate became entwined with British
abolitionists: inspirational figures such as
Granville Sharp, the flute-playing
father-figure of slave freedom, and John
Clarkson, the 'Moses' of this great exodus,
who accompanied the blacks on their final... Tags : google howto rough crossings simon schama |

| Maine Eastern 002 at Bath Crossings/Station/Carleton Bridge |
 |
Maine Eastern Railroad Train No. 002 blares
its Nathan K5H over 20 times at the Bath, ME
crossings. This train, led by EMD FL9 No. 489
(Ex-Amtrak), is returning to Rockland on
Wednesday, August 22, 2007, (On time at
10:45!) after arriving in Brunswick, ME with
stops in Wiscasset and Bath. The 6-car
consist includes the Magnolia, Elm, Ash,
Pine, Birken, and Alexander Hamilton; the
excursion today included a diner (Birken) and
Parlor-Class car.
Note the new Bath train station, which
recently opened after a $1.3 million
restoration, as well as the active Bath Iron
Works. Also, notice the train crossing the
Carleton Bridge, which is currently under
restoration. As the Maine Eastern works to
improve line safety, the crossing gate
nearest to the station has an electronic bell
and new gate system, while the others are
much older and awaiting replacement.
