Sometimes the life of an author is more
interesting than her subjects. While Daphne
Du Maurier's REBECCA is one of the most
appreciated works in English letters, her
secret love life was full of difficulties and
trauma that certainly informed, and might
even be more fascinating than, her fiction.
This dramatic interpretation of her life is
based on letters, and on biographies that
examine her forbidden love affairs with
high-society figure Ellen Doubleday and the
actress Gertrude Lawrence. It's a story that
can rival anything Du Maurier ever invented
and one that will transport viewers back to
an era that was as sensuous as it was
repressed.

Daphne Miller, MD, is a board-certified
family physician in private practice in San
Francisco. She is an associate professor at
the University of California, San Francisco,
where she teaches nutrition and integrative
medicine. A graduate of Brown University and
Harvard Medical School, she did her residency
at UCSF and an Integrative Medicine
Fellowship at the University of Arizona. She
lives in San Francisco with her husband, the
architect Ross Levy, and her two children,
Arlen and Emet.
