Udine, 12 maggio 2007, ore 13:30 circa. Dopo
una lunga e apprezzata conferenza presso la
Chiesa di San Francesco, l'ex presidente
iraniano S.M. Khatami riceve il caloroso
saluto del pubblico udinese. C'è spazio
persino per atti proibiti, almeno secondo la
"rigida interpretazione" della sharia vigente
in Iran: strette di mano col gentil sesso,
ben cinque (parte finale del video). Un gesto
che ha fatto discutere parecchio, in Iran
come a Udine, dagli USA e l'India, e
naturalmente su internet (i blog iraniani in
particolare), in una piroetta di polemiche e

Soon after beginning his speech, President

reformist students, who voiced their
disappointment in him.

22 giugno 2007, "Radio Farda" trasmette un
servizio sulle vicende relative alla visita
udinese dell'ex presidente iraniano M.
Khatami. Al telefono col corrispondente da
Roma c'è l'autore del video postato su "You
Tube" che ritrae Khatami mentre compie, a
Udine, gesti "proibiti" (strette di mano a
donne).
Accusato di lavorare per la CIA per
screditare Khatami ovvero l'Iran o l'Islam
nel suo complesso, M. Orioles spiega le sue
posizioni.

2007. An interview with the man who filmed
mr. Khatami's speech in Udine, Italy (May 12,
2007) and subsequent, controversial
"handshakes" with public. In Iran, someone
openly suggested Mr. Orioles being a CIA
agent organizing a very complex plot to
discredit Khatami, Iran or Islam.
"Cia plot?", is mr. Orioles' remark. "I think
CIA only discovered it had a modest sociology
lecturer as an agent in Udine, the day after
Kayhan published its editorial...."
