One of the common and well known concerns in
obtaining a Kosher certification is the issue
of the affordability of Kosher certification.
This is especially the case as Kosher
certification is an annual fee and is subject
to inflation. Costing models of Kosher
certifying agencies can vary widely and it is
common knowledge that the largest kosher
certifiers are also the most pricey. An
anecdote or two will suffice- I was contacted
on several occasions by start up companies
that approached a major Kosher certifier and
in each case the company was quoted a minimal
fee of $5,000 a year. EarthKosher in each
instance was happily able to certify the
company for $2,500 a year. In another
instance a much more established company
informed me that they were paying $12,000 a
year for their Kosher certification. This was
a dried tea company which are not known to be
highly complicated to Kosher certify. This
boggled my mind as we could have happily
certified the company for $4,000 a year or
less. These savings would not be at the
expense of Kosher standards nor would they be
at the expense of competency- they would just
be legitimate savings based on our model of
what we consider a reasonable fee for the
services we are providing taking into account
the costs that we ensue to perform those
services. We are not alone in charging more
reasonable fees nor is there a shortage of
pricey Kosher certifiers. EarthKosher is

there is indeed an unfair Kosher tax. I think
the term would be 'anti-American' and, oh, I
don't know... CRIMINAL.
Many Jews eat non-Kosher foods & even they
must pay this unfair Kosher fee. The fee is
both illegal & unfair to *everyone*.
