ProblemsThe Associated PressPeople continue
to battle high water in Indiana, Illinois,
Indiana and Iowa. (June 10)[Notes:ANCHOR
VOICE] (VIDEO OF BROKEN LEVY FROM AIR
BOAT)Ad another state to the list of those
deluged with high water. Two levee breaks
have caused water to pour across 50 square
miles of an Illinois county which borders
already hard-hit Indiana.The Embarrass River
exploded through right here spilling millions
of gallons of water.(VIDEO OF SWAMPED CAMPERS
AND STRANDED JIM MCCLASKEY)But the Lawrence
Rod and Gun Club was in the flood path.RV's

IN THE BACK ROAD. IT WASN'T BAD WHEN WE COME
THROUGH. WE FOOLED AROUND ABOUT AN HOUR OR
SO OVER THERE. WHEN WE TRIED TO LEAVE. WE
TURNED AROUND IT GOT TOO DEEP."MARK
CARLSON/STANDUPThis is normally farmland as
far as the eye can see. When the Embarrass
River levy broke, the landscaped turned into
a lake. [Notes:map pull out effect?]In
addition to Illinois, severe flooding extends
across several midwest states: Indiana,
Iowa, and Wisconsin. [Notes:wisc] The village
of Gays Mills, Wisconsin was inundated during
the weekend, just 10 months after another
devastating flood left residents working to
rebuild homes and businesses. The swollen
Kickapoo River engulfed nearly the entire
town. Almost a quarter of the 625 residents
have evacuated. Officials say the very
survival of the town is at stake.(SOT: LARRY
MCCARN/GAYS MILLS VILLAGE PRESIDENT) I'M
REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT IT, YES. I AM NOT
SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL STAY OR EVEN COME
BACK OR EVEN THE BUSINESSES, WHAT'LL HAPPEN
TO THEM.Wisconsin's governor will ask for a
federal disaster declaration later this week.
About 70 miles north, in Lake Delton,
families are surveying the damage left behind
after Lake Delton overflowed, then emptied.
It swept away several homes in the process.
(sot: TIM FROMM/lost home)15:21:01 JUST NOT
SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT BECAUSE IF YOU
LOOK OVER WE DON'T EVEN HAVE LAND ANYMORE.
[Notes:pool]In Elnora, Indiana, the breadth
of the problem can been seen from the air.
The White River has overrun it's
banks--reaching 16 feet above flood stage in
some places. The state got two inches of
rain Monday, on top of the 11 inches received
in places over the weekend [Notes:woi]
Iowans continue to sandbag to try to hold
back the water. The governor has declared
emergencies in 31 counties. The downpours
that led to all this flooding are also
impacting crops. Flooded corn fields have
made it difficult for farmers to plant,
pushing corn prices to record highs on
commodities exchanges. ___ ___, The

MidwestThe Associated PressUp to three more
inches of rain is expected in Indiana, which
is already experiencing the worst flooding in
modern history. Federal and state disaster
areas have been declared in several Midwest
states. (June 9)The true power of nature was
on full display throughout the midwest. In
Lake Delton, Wisconsin, rising flood waters
claimed homes. The houses floated away as if
toys in a giant bathtub. [Notes:carlson

hit the water tower to the front part of the
town probably an hour. It wasn't much at all
it hit fast.THE WATER CAME INTO THE TOWN IN A

VERBLE AND HIS WIFE EVACUATED BUT THE WATER
HAS YET TO DO THE SAME. THEIR POOL IS
SURROUNDED BY A POOL. 4131 it's the worst
thing that's happened to me in all the years
we've been married. We've been married,
what? 54 years. MARK CARLSON/STANDUP MEDORA,
IN SURPRISINGLY THE PEOPLE OF MEDORA SAY THEY
DIDN'T GET A DROP OF RAIN OVER THE WEEKEND.
ALL OF THIS WATER CAME FROM UPSTATE AND
RUSHED DOWN THE WHITE RIVER PUNISHING TOWN
AFTER TOWN. [Notes:stringer material]In one
of those towns--Columbus--fire hoses are
helping to pump out water from the basement
of the Columbus Regional Hospital.(SOT: JIM
BICKEL/COLUMBUS REGIONAL HOSPITAL)(1:45) THE
ENTIRE LOWER LEVEL BASEMENT AREA OF THE
FACILITY WAS COMPLETELY FLOODED UP TO THE
CEILING IT THEN STARTED COME UP TO THE
GROUND LEVEL, THE MAIN FLOOR OF THE HOSPITAL.
Patients were evacuated over the weekend. The
power is out and officials say it will likely
be a few weeks before the hospital can
reopen. [Notes:woi] The misery isn't limited
to Indiana. In Des Moines, Iowa people are
using to sandbags to try to protect their
homes from a fast-rising creek. Iowa's
governor says a third of the state needs
federal help. Wisconsin's governor has
declared an emergency in 29 counties. Back
in Indiana, President Bush has already
declared a federal emergency in more than two
dozen counties. [Notes:weather loop]And more
misery may be on the way. The national
weather service says Indiana could get
another three inches of rain late Monday.
