Adrian Thaws, better known as T r i c k y, is
an English trip hop musician in the British
music scene. He is noted for a whispering
lyrical style that is half-rapped, half-sung.
As a producer and a musician, he is noted for
a dark, rich and layered sound. Culturally,
Tricky bridges white and black Britain,
particularly in his fusion of rock and hip
hop, high art and pop culture. His debut
album Maxinquaye was nominated for the
Mercury Prize and voted Album of the Year by
NME Magazine.

"Ike's Rap II" is sampled in classic trip-hop
hits "GLORY BOX," by Portishead, and "HELL IS
AROUND THE CORNER," by Tricky.
According to a quick Google search, neither
party knew that the other was sampling this
song for their albums; Tricky's "Maxinquaye,"
which features Hell is Around the Corner, was
being conceived/written/produced around the
same time as Portishead's "Dummy," which
features Glory Box. "Dummy" did debut first,
however, in 1994, whereas "Maxinquaye" came
out in '95.
Regardless of this, nothing ill had arisen
between the two recording artists. Today,
like before, Tricky and Portishead are both
considered to be staples in the trip-hop
scene.

origins between Tricky's and Portishead's
