The North Face: Men's McMurdo Down Parka -
Aside from a new nylon oxford shell fabric
(it used to be dobby) The North Face McMurdo
Parka still offers everything a parka should
be for work and play in cold weather. That's
probably why this garment ranks among the
most successful in The North Face outerwear
collection. The McMurdo features a
waterproof, breathable, seam-sealed
construction backed by warm 550-fill down and
more pockets than you'll typically find on
most winter outerwear. If fur isn't your
thing, the faux trim can be easily removed
along with the entire adjustable hood. Inside
the McMurdo Parka you'll find two zippered
security pockets and two pockets for water
bottles. This North Face Parka is also
electronics ready, so you can hook up to your
work radio or MP3 music player without
running a bunch of wires or leaving zippers
agape. Fun aside, the McMurdo is one of the
best-equipped parkas we've seen, and unless
global warming eliminates winter, we won't
have a bunch in stock for long.

| Pinsetting In McMurdo |
 |
I don't know if some of you remember that
last year I pinset at the prestigious McMurdo
Bowling Alley. Well, I never really showed
you how that worked. So I recorded Mykle and
Richard pinsetting a few nights back when I
went cosmic bowling. Tags : Pinsetting McMurdo |

| #3 USCG Polar Sea at work, McMurdo Antarctica, 2004 |
 |
And The Polar Sea Continues it's efforts to
get to the Ice Dock. Now then I talk about
the Ice Dock, it is just that, the Sea Bees,
came up with the idea of using ice for the
dock, but they came up with an unusual method
of using ice, they would make the ice 1-2
foot thick, then add cable reinforcement,
then another layer of ice, they would do this
until the dock was about 15-20 feet thick.
Then they would put posts in the corners to
tie the ships off to and for the guard
cables. This way as the sea would raise and
lower it wouldn't destroy the dock, because
the dock would raise with it. They used a
bridge between the dock and the land. This
method is still used today. They use a dock
for 3-4 years then cut it loose and tow it
out to sea to melt and build a new one the
following winter. (just a little history) Tags : Antarctica NSF Cold UnitedStates Government Science UnitedStatesCoastGuard USCG |
