| Guy McPherson - Pronóstico pesimista para los años venideros |

El Catedrático de Recursos Naturales,
Ecología y Biología Evolutiva de la
Universidad de Arizona Guy R. McPherson
defiende que alcanzamos el cénit del
petróleo en 2005 y que a partir de 2009
empieza el descenso marcado de la producción
de crudo, con una reducción anual de hasta
el 6%. En esta entrevista de abril de 2008
del programa Horizon de AZPBS (Arizona,
EE.UU.), el Prof. McPherson discute un
artículo que recientemente publicó en el
diario "Arizona Republic" y que tituló "El
fin del mundo tal y como lo conocemos".
Según este profesor universitario, cuyas
credenciales sugieren que tiene una muy buena
comprensión del funcionamiento del
Ecosistema Tierra, no lograremos organizarnos
para evitar el desmembramiento total de
nuestro sistema. Sin embargo, matiza, eso
será lo mejor para las generaciones
venideras, dado que de seguir como hasta
ahora acabaríamos con el planeta en poco
más de un siglo.

Princeton Professor Emeritus James M.
McPherson for a discussion of his new book,
Trial by War. Their discussion focuses on
the
qualities that defined Abraham Lincoln's
leadership, how he came to define the role of
commander in chief, the evolution of his
thinking on national policy with regard to
slavery, how his goal of saving the Union
shaped the politics of the war, his
relationship to his generals, and the
thinking and circumstances that led to his
suspension of habeas corpus and the
initiation of military tribunals. Professor
McPherson reflects on the lessons to be
learned from Lincoln's conduct of the civil
war and its implications for today's wars.
