| Frank Wilson - Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) |
 |
The original version of this song is quite
simply the most sought-after Motown and
Northern Soul record of all time. The
legendary Motown producer, Frank Wilson, made
this solo record for Motown which was so
rare, and so in demand, that someone paid
fifteen thousand English pounds for a copy.
He was a big help with the Motorcity project,
in 1989 and 1990, and he and his wife Bunny
always stay at my house every time they're
visiting London. The Motown single "Do I Love
You (Indeed I Do)" became so huge that
everyone wanted to see Frank perform it. For
years he refused, but finally he gave in and
did so at Fleetwood in 2000, in front of two
and a half thousand people, the one and only
time he said he would ever do this. But
previously to that, we had visited him at his
Los Angeles home, and filmed him at the
piano, so people got to see, on The Strange
World Of Northern Soul DVD, this legendary
song being performed for the first ever time. Tags : Northern-Soul Motown Detroit Classic Sixties-Soul Male-Soul Motorcity |

This clip definitely strikes a chord given
the conflict ridden world we live in...often
times these conflicts affect families in the
most tragic ways. This video clip and the
accompanying audio, carries a strong message.
We hope you will appreciate this message and
if so, pass this video along to your family
and friends who may also feel the same.

| Northern Soul "THERE'S A PAIN IN MY HEART" |
 |
Northern Soul is the term used in the UK for
a type of mid-tempo and uptempo heavy-beat
soul music (of mainly African American
origin) that was popularized in northern
England in the mid 1960s. The term also
refers to the associated dance styles and
fashions that emanated from the Twisted Wheel
club in Manchester and spread to other
dancehalls and nightclubs; such as the Golden
Torch (in Stoke-upon-Trent), the Blackpool
Mecca, and (in 1973) the Wigan Casino.
Northern soul dancing was usually athletic,
resembling the later dance styles of disco
and break dancing. Featuring spins, flips,
and backdrops, the northern soul dancing
style was inspired by the stage performances
of visiting American soul acts such as Little
Anthony & The Imperials and Jackie Wilson.
A large proportion of northern soul's
original audience came from the mod movement.
Some mods started to embrace the freakbeat
and psychedelic rock of the late 1960s, but
other mods - especially those in northern
England - stuck to the original mod
soundtrack of soul and blue beat. Some mods
transformed into what would eventually be the
skinheads, and others formed the basis of the
northern soul scene. Early northern soul
fashion included bowling shirts, button-down
Ben Sherman shirts, blazers with centre vents
and unusual numbers of buttons, Trickers
brogue shoes, baggy trousers or shrink-to-fit
Levi's jeans. Many dancers wore badges
representing membership to clubs organised by
dance halls.
The first nightclub that effectively defined
the northern soul sound was Manchester's
Twisted Wheel Club. Other early clubs were
the The Mojo in Sheffield, The Catacombs in
Wolverhampton, Golden Torch in Stoke, Room at
the Top in Wigan, the Wigan Casino, the
Blackpool Mecca and Va Va's in Bolton. The
music reached its peak of popularity in the
mid to late 1970s, Tags : NORTHERN SOUL TAMLA MOTOWN SCOOTERS MODS |

UPDATE: 20/7/07
Thanks to the 200 people who came out to the
first showing of Young Birds Fly on Saturday.
It was a fantastic screening and good times
were had by all.It was a very party like and
good vibes atmosphere in the theatre
throughout the entire 3 hour performance of
YBF...perhaps it was all the alcohol that
smuggled into the theatre and after a few
hours a few people were a bit drunk! Everyone
seemed to get a kick out if the story and
characters. Although many people did have
their opinions on YBF generally speaking it
was well received and I thank you for coming
out and watching my film. I plan to cut down
the film now meaning that the long print I
screened on Saturday will not be screened
again.
I had only wish that I could have talked to
many of you that came out, but it all went by
too fast and by the time I cleared out the
theatre and packed my equipment everyone was
gone! I would love to hear your opinion of
the film so feel free to email me.Thanks to
both the Long Beach Vintage Classic Scooter
Club and Ricky and his Covina crew to
bringing out all the Vintage scooters to the
event. Also a special nod to all those who
came out from Arizona and San Diego for the
screening. Also thanks to John Garside and
Julian for manning the projection booth and
Riannon Beltran for heading the ticket booth.
The above made the afternoon a day many
people will never forget.
Leonardo Flores
