| Magic Pengel & Graffiti Kingdom Doodles video montage |
 |
A montage of my favorite doodles I have drawn
in action. All of these (some my original
design, others were based on existing
characters) were made in the Playstation 2
videogames Magic Pengel and it's sequel
Graffiti Kingdom. (In Japan the games are
known as Rakugaki Oukoku -- "Kingdom of
Scribbling")
You draw these creatures part by part in 2D,
and the game puffs them out into 3D according
to how thick you tell it to make it each
part. How you draw them, what definitions
you assign to the parts (IE if you tell it a
part is a "leg" then it will stand on that
part, "soft" parts flow, "Hard" parts don't
wiggle or move, etc...), and what colors you
use determine how the animal animates,
attacks, and moves. In the second game you
can choose their overall animations, attacks
and personalities.
It takes time to get each animal to animate /
look how you want. The game's animation
engine can be stupid at times and you need to
work with it. I've been playing these two
games for a WHILE and have learned how to
exploit the system and get what I want
movement from each character. X3
