Otis Redding wrote this song while living on
a houseboat in Sausalito on the San Francisco
Bay. We discovered the actual spot where
Otis' housboat was berthed, and shot new
Super8 footage from the spot for use in this
video. Thanks to Anne Garfield, Joel Selvin
and Bill Belmont. Otis recorded this song
shortly before his tragic death. Steve
Cropper finished production on the song after
Otis' plane went down. Released posthumously,
it was Otis' biggest hit ever. Enjoy! Tags : Otis Redding Stax Dock of the Bay Steve Cropper |

| Change Is Gonna Come - Otis Redding |
 |
Otis Redding (Sept. 9, 1941 - Dec. 10, 1967)
was an American soul and blues singer who has
influenced many people and fellow musicians
over the years. In 1967, he abruptly died in
a plane crash. Everyone on the plane was
killed except for one band member who was
able to recall some of the event.
Redding idolized Sam Cooke and covered a good
deal of his songs over the course of his
career. Some other Cooke covers he did were
"Shake" and "You Send Me." His cover of
Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" is a great
impression of how he could make a song his
own and instill in it raw feeling and power.
It remains one of my favorite Redding songs.
I hope you come to love it just as much as I
have. Enjoy! Tags : Otis Redding Sam Cooke Change Is Gonna Come Blues Soul 1960's |
