| Shadowy Narcissus: Is Everyone Lonely? |
 |
A trip to my life with some people I love.
Bryan Ferry (and Sting agrees) is said to
have remarked: "We are always alone and we'll
never understand."
This is an autobiography that is interspersed
with images of persons, living and gone, that
I admire and love. Were they, or are they,
basically lonely individuals?
1. Abandoned factory in San Finx mines,
Lousame, A Coruña, NW Spain
2. months old, held in the air by my mom
Concha in the house where I was born in O
Araño, Rianxo
3. Hans Christian Andersen in 1865
4. age 4
5. photographer Ruth M. Anderson, from
Nebraska, on a field in Vimianzo, A Coruña,
1924
6. age 6
7. Ruth M. Anderson at the museum yard in
Pontevedra, 1925
8. age 8
9. Kate Winslet in Premiere magazine, photo
by Robert Krumann
10. age 11, with my grandmother María Pérez
Agrelo - the person that is gone that I love
the most. Her husband went to Argentina as an
immigrant just before their second child - my
mom - was born. She never saw him again and
remained, as my favorite poet Rosalía would
say, "a widow of the living"
11. Henry James - wasn't he lonelier for
being homosexual in his times?
12. age 13, in the States, school picture. I
love this shot because in it I have the same
expression as Kate Winslet on my favorite
scene in Sense And Sensibility: playing
Marianne she weeps in amazement when she
suddenly discovers that Emma Thompson's
Elinor also has a lonely, needy heart
13. Nazim Hikmet - I Come And Stand At Every
Door - with wife Münewer
14.age 18, self-portrait in my room in
Newark, and next is the
15.view I had from that room
16. Eusebio Lorenzo Baleirón, outstanding
Galician poet from Dodro who suffered a
tragic death, from cancer, at age 27. He
looks a bit like ...
17. Bruce Springsteen, whose album The River
contains two favorites of mine: "Point Blank"
and the title track
18. face of Jesus, lonely on the cross, by
Galician sculptor Gregorio Fernández,
probably one of the best sculptors ever,
though he isn't yet acknowledged as such
19. a bull strikes young matador Jesulín de
Ubrique. Unlike my lonesome idol Hemingway, I
hate bullfighting, but I guess that the
bullfighter must feel really lonely
20. Sting, around 1980, during a Police
concert. He wrote the immortal "So Lonely"
21. age 36, on the beach in Palmeira
22. Anton Chekhov, the best short-story
writer ever
23. age 42, March 8th, 2008. By a bizarre
coincidence, a problem with the video
transfer shows me at an old age (if I get
there), like a sort of Dorian Grey.
* Is life a play? A beautiful tragicomedy?
* Thank you for watching. I realize that the
video is very long.
Music: Fizzarum's "Microphorus" and
Biosphere's "Poa alpina"
* This video (like the novel I am writing:
The House Of Common Good) is dedicated to my
beloved grandmother María Pérez Agrelo,

1982) Tags : Shadowy Narcissus Henry James Biosphere Hikmet Andersen Kate Winslet Sting Chekhov Police Rosalía Springsteen Fizzarum |

11. Frances Tomelty (once married to my idol

beauty of the Goran Bregovic song.

Galician Department, University College Cork.

| Shadowy Narcissus: Roxy Music - Take A Chance With Me, Tara |
 |
Tribute to Roxy Music, one of the most
Romantic of bands. This song, written by
Bryan Ferry and Phil Manzanera, is my
favorite by them, followed by "Same Old
Scene," "Both Ends Burning," "Out Of The
Blue," and "While My Heart Is Still Beating."
Roxy Music has recorded some glorious albums
over the years, works made with a controlled
passion which feels almost unbearably
bittersweet at times for the listener. Very
often, the songs are really sexy and
correspond well with the glamorous image of
the amazing girls that have adorned their
image. We don't know about the love lives of
the wondrously talented Bryan Ferry, Phil
Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Brian Eno, and the
assorted magnificent musicians who
accompanied them - a special mention for
drummer Paul Thompson and bassists Alan
Spenner, Neil Jason and Gary Tibbs - but they
have inspired some crazy, torrid, heartfelt
and riveting music.

10. Model for a Clarins ad
11. Kate Winslet, for movie based on Esther
Freud's extraordinary "Hideous Kinky" novel
12. Model for Mujer de hoy magazine
13. José Saramago, outstanding Portuguese
writer, author of "Blindness"
14. Emmanuelle Seigner, in fantastic "The
Diving Bell And The Butterfly" movie
15. "Sleepy" model for Clarins ad
16. Postcard from the 80s
17. Vilar beach again, with old companion the
moon, some fishing ships and the magical
Corrubedo lighthouse in the distance.
I forgot to mention that Roxy Music is also
the most elegant group ever, and this virtue
appears on Andy Mackay's brief jewel "Tara"
from the same "Avalon" album.

* Message to Mr. Moore: I admire your cello
work on the album . Please excuse me for
encircling your name, all in good humor.
*Emmanuelle: if you happen to read this ...
you are one of the most attractive screen
presences I've ever seen. I admire your
acting on the telephone scene. I hope you
star in many movies. Tags : ShadowyNarcissus Roxy Music Chance Tara Emmanuelle Seigner Kate Winslet Jennifer Lopez |

A trip to Shakira's high-quality pop single
in Spanish. This song is included in the
"Fijación oral" album from 2005, which was
produced by Rick Rubin and co-produced by
Lester Méndez, Luis F. Ochoa and Gustavo
Cerati.

* I first happened to see Shakira, when
watching TV in my hometown Araño, on a
wonderful Mexican program called "Siempre en
domingo," hosted by the late and amiable
Raúl Velasco (the excellent Galician TV host
Xosé Ramón Gayoso is similar in some ways).
This very beautiful, dark-eyed, long-haired
brunette transfixed the audience - I remember
there were many children - with a charismatic
and joy-filled performance. It was easy to
fall in platonic love with her. I know that
Gabriel García Márquez likes her, and no
wonder, she is also a great pride for
Colombia.
* I also love the gorgeous Colombian actress
Catalina Sandino Moreno. Her acting in the
brave and harrowing "María Full Of Grace"
movie inspired me to write a short story that
takes place in Bogotá. The story is entitled
"Latinoamérica en el corazón (Tres
palabras)."
* Doesn't dazzling Keeley remind you here of
Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers?
And doesn't the boy at the end look a bit
like Eros Ramazzotti?
* Este video está dedicado a Olaia Torres. Tags : Shakira Las de la intuición Audrey Hepburn Simone Beauvoir Rachel Weisz Rubin Cerati Colombia |
