| Marvin Stamm - Alone Together |

"Alone Together" "We have played this lovely
Arthur Schwartz/Howard Dietz tune many times,
but not in this fashion. Rufus started
vamping on this "feel," and the tune just
took its own direction. Much of the music in
our performances happens this way."
http://www.marvinstamm.com presents "Alone
Together," featuring Marvin Stamm, trumpet;
Bill Mays, piano; Rufus Reid, bass; and Ed
Soph, drums.
These video clips are from the new Marvin
Stamm Quartet DVD and CD set, "Alone
Together." The concert from which this DVD
and CD were filmed and recorded took place in
California on November 5, 2006, following a
week of performing concerts on the Jazz
Cruise. One can talk and write about music,
but in reality, it is all in the listening -
and in this case, the seeing. As expressed by
reviewer Dave Miele in JazzImprov magazine
Jazz is a live music. "It's meant to be heard
and seen in person."
Marvin Stamm: "I have much love and respect
for these marvelous friends - Bill Mays,
Rufus Reid, and Ed Soph - and for the music
we create together. After my many years as a
professional musician and these last
seventeen years concentrating only upon
performing as a Jazz artist, it is most
rewarding to be at this place in this time in
my life. It is a good place to be." Tags : Marvin Stamm Jazz Trumpet Bill Mays Rufus Reid Ed Soph |

"This haunting melody has been a favorite of
Jazz musicians for many years. Following the
opening melody, Bill Mays set the tone for
this almost Tango-like version, and Ed Soph
and Rufus Reid took it from there."

This tune is taken from Alexander Borodin's
2nd String Quartet and was made popular in
the 1950's by trumpeter Jonah Jones. Bill
Mays and I have been enjoying playing it for
a while and decided to add it to the
quartet's repertoire. The body is played in
3/4 time, but the "bridge," or middle
section, is played in 4/4.

"Rufus Reid's fun and challenging composition
'Come Out and Play,' showcases Bill Mays'
playing at its best. New to the quartet's
repertoire, the group took to 'Come Out and
Play' immediately and did just that!
