| Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2007 Collection |
 |
Paris, 03 October 2006 -- Vivienne Westwood
is one of the few designers who can
successfully mix fashion, art, and social
commentary. In her collection for Spring
Summer 2007 entitled "I Am Expensiv" (sic),
presented in Paris on 3 October 2006, the
question she asked was "Can Barbie have a
conscience?", criticising the gap between the
lavish universe of fashion and a
poverty-plagued world. "I designed a sort of
barbie doll in a box, with a hole in her
head, totally spoilt," Westwood told Reuters
backstage after her show where some models
paraded out with a mane of golden hair and
large belts reading "I am expensive." "The
message is 'I am expensive and I am
subsidized by all the poor people in the
world'. We're terribly spoilt. We have a
responsibility to ourselves to do something,"
she said. The fashion grande dame, who
launched the punk look in the 1970s, clashed
fabrics and designs in stunning patched-up
dresses, a classic knee-length black suit
with a Stetson hat, or customized t-shirts
worn to a wrapped skirt with a puffed-out
behind. One ballroom gown's bottom looked
like a satin diaper or sumo fighter string
and was covered up with a long trail in the
back. The dress attracted appreciative
whistles and cheers from a packed audience,
front-rowed by Janet Jackson and numerous
buyers for Harrods, Galeries Lafayette or
Japanese stores. Some of the models,
including 1980s Westwood muse Sarah
Stockbridge, were as cheeky as the fashion
priestess herself, parading out with watering
cans or smoking cigarettes. Westwood called
again for the release of Leonard Peltier, an
American Indian activist convicted for the
1975 killing of two FBI agents. "Leonard
Peltier is innocent. 30 years in jail for
something he didn't do. I think you have to
fight for justice before the law. You can't
have culture or civilization if you don't
fight for justice. That's the first thing
everybody has to try to do." Tags : vivienne westwood fashion show paris s/s ss 07 |

They are just 3 weeks old, but twins Knox
Léon and Vivienne Marcheline are about to
take the world by storm.
In an exclusive interview and photos, Brad
Pitt and Angelina Jolie offer PEOPLE an
intimate look at their growing family.
"It is chaos, but we are managing it and
having a wonderful time," Jolie tells PEOPLE
of daily life at the Château Miraval in
Provence, France, where the couple's four
older children -- Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara,
3, and Shiloh, 2 -- have been enjoying a
summer of outdoor play (hide-and-seek is a
favorite) on the château's sprawling
grounds.
Adds Pitt: "[It's] still a cuckoo's nest."
Fortunately, they already have some household
helpers. "[Shiloh] and Z pick out [the
twins'] clothes and help change and hold
them," says Jolie. "It's sweet -- they are
little mommies."

| A Tribute to Vivienne Westwood |
 |
This is a song I wrote about Vivienne
Westwood and her influence on Punk Rock and
the 1970s. I recorded this on a Saturday
afternoon in the spare room. I started by
recording a basic drum track, then using a
Epiphone Gibson Standard I put down two
guitar tracks, panned left and right, then I
developed the lyrics, and final recorded my
vocal track with a punkish (John Lyndon)
feeling. I mixed down on a VS 840 using some
reverb. The images are from the Internet. No
offence meant to anyone it is my shot at a
retrospective of Ms Westwood's life and work.
Why? cause I reckon she is pretty dam cool.
Please leave comments. ScarySpider.

| Vivienne Westwood fashion show proves tricky for models |
 |
Vivienne Westwood titled her latest show "I
Am Expensive" to criticise the gap between
the lavish universe of fashion and a
poverty-plagued world, but the only gap seen
on the runway were the high heels some models
found difficult to walk in.
Beginning modestly, the show presented
knee-length and ankle-length gowns in neutral
colours. But Westwood's signature style and
boldness soon came shining through in
graffiti prints and bold shades of pink, blue
and green.
