| EXPLOSION #3 |
 |
This is the third archival release of
excerpts from recovered pop music videos
produced in the 1970s previously thought to
have been lost forever. Most of the videos
recovered from The Now Explosion program were
single musical numbers which had been used
to make up Now Explosion marathon programs
exactly as you might have put together a
1970's top forty radio schedule with records.
The program distribution videotapes
themselves were usually erased to make room
for more programs because the videotape was
so expensive in 1970. But one complete
program was found - featuring Miami disc
jockey, Rick Shaw. Part of it is featured
here in Explosion #3. A short excerpt
featuring New York DeeJay, Dan Ingram is also
included.
It was music video ten years before MTV or
VH1. Long lost original video recordings of
the marathon TV program, The Now Explosion,
produced in Atlanta, GA, in 1970 and
syndicated nationwide, was recovered by video
archivists at the University of Georgia where
the videos are stored. Program segments found
in South Florida were remastered by the
university archive to contemporary technical
standards and converted to digital media.
The "stars" of this invention were energetic,
talented amateur performers dancing
spontaneously in a sea of 1970's special
effects invented by young producers working
on financial shoestrings in Atlanta and other
cities. The program was also seen in New
York, Washington, D.C., Boston, St. Louis,
Charlotte, San Francisco and Sacramento.
EXPLOSION #3 is a "fair use" presentation of
short restored excerpts that have been
obtained by the original producer of the Now
Explosion and are presented here for
educational and research use only. The
excerpt producer is very much appreciative of
the archival work accomplished by UGA. This
sequence of excerpts, however, is not a
presentation of and is not affiliated with
the University of Georgia. Tags : dance top40 nowexplosion music rock pop video MTV VH1 Dan Ingram Rick Shaw WATL WFAA |
