From the Wright Brother's airplane to the
stealth, these airplanes show the history of
military aviation. This video shows a portion
of a tour of the Wright Patterson AFB
aircraft museum. World's largest and oldest
military aviation museum.
This F-117 Stealth Fighter (Nighthawk) can
seen from different angles. Its exhaust is
well hidden. Although it uses the "F"
designation, it is chiefly a ground-attack
plane, which is also used as a bomber.
Because the strength of a radar return is
proportional to the edge configuration of an
object, the plane has a boxy, aerodynamically
unstable appearance. Its stealth technology
also includes its surface coating.
The SR-71, Blackbird, has a top speed of Mach
3.5 -- more than 3 times the speed of sound.
Its actual top speed may be classified and
some say it has flown at speeds up to Mach
14. It is 107 feet long with a maximum
altitude of over 100,000 feet and has stealth
capabilities. Some think a replacement, the
Aurora, is entering service. The SR-71 may
still be the world's fastest airplane. Some
may have been brought back into service.
The T-38, Talon, is an advanced, twin engine,
high-altitude, supersonic jet. The Northrop
jet is the only supersonic trainer in the
world, used by few countries, and was used
with the SR-71. Versions are still in use.
The B-2, stealth bomber is made by Northrop
Grumman. This multi-role heavy bomber can
deploy both nuclear and conventional weapons.
Also shown is the ACTUAL Boeing B-29
Superfortress, Bockscar, which dropped the
second atomic bomb (plutonium bomb), called
Fatboy, on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945.
The huge B-52D Stratofortress was used for
later bombing missions.
The GBU-27, a 2200 lb. laser-guided bomb was
designed specifically for use for the F-117.
It is considered a highly accurate missile
compatible with the F-117's advanced
targeting system. The GBU-27 was used in
Baghdad, Iraq.
The world's first operational jet fighter was
the Messerschmitt, Me 262. The development
of its engine, the Junkers Jumo 004 Turbojet,
began in 1937 and large-scale production
began in late 1944. By the time Germany
surrendered in May 1945, over 5,000 engines
had been made. The engine was first flight
tested in 1942.
The B-17 and the Consolidated B-24 were the
two standard US heavy bombers until the B-29
Superfortress was introduced. The B-17 was
flown by the Army Air Corps throughout WWII.
It was used to bombard German targets. Later
the chin turret was introduced, such as in
the Memphis Belle. An example of the B-1 is
displayed at the Wright Patterson AFB in
Dayton, Ohio. A B-24 Liberator, the
Strawberry Bitch, is also exhibited there.
The Convair B-36J, "Peacemaker," Strategic
Intercontinental Bomber, the largest combat
airplane. Its wingspan is 230' and length is
162'. It was built to strike Europe from the
US. It was the largest production aircraft
ever built. It is distinctive because it is
the only aircraft capable of attacking a
target on another continent and returning to
home base without having to refuel.

From the Wright Brother's airplane to the
stealth to the space program, Purdue
University is important in aviation. The
first Purdue graduate to become an aviator
received his flight instruction from Orville
Wright himself.
Purdue is noted for leading-edge technology.
Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo
across the Atlantic, was a consultant for
aeronautics and for women's careers.
(Purdue's Earhart Hall.) In the 1960s and
1970s-the years of the "Space Race," Purdue
University became almost predominate.
Graduates ranged from Neil Armstrong, first
person to walk on another world, to Eugene
Cernan, who was the last. Virgil "Gus"
Grissom became one of NASA's seven original
astronauts. (Purdue University's Grissom
Hall.) Over a third of all U.S. manned space
flights have had at least one Purdue graduate
on board.
The F-117 Stealth Fighter (Nighthawk) uses
the "F" designation, however, it is chiefly a
ground-attack plane sometimes used as a
bomber. Because the strength of a radar
return is proportional to the edge
configuration of an object, the plane has a

of nuclear warfare when he dropped the atom

| F-22 Raptor Stealth Danger Close Formation Fighter World's F-18 Super First New |
 |
Completely new demonstration of the F-22
Raptor, the world's most advanced fighter and
most fearsome killing machine ever. Also
shown are many additional advanced unique
aircraft undergoing astounding maneuvers.
The Dayton Air Show features precision aerial
maneuvers to display some of the world's most
amazing aircraft. Some portions are so
dangerous they have resulted in crashes -
stunt pilot Jim LeRoy had a fatal crash July
28 2007. However the same aerobatics
procedures continue unchanged in this year's
show. Some of the demonstrations are at just
below, or possibly at, supersonic speeds.
The F22 will display the unique abilities of
the world's only operational fifth-generation
fighter aircraft. The Raptor is the world's
first stealth air dominance fighter. It
combines stealth, maneuverability, and an
ability to fly long distances at supersonic
speeds to maintain air superiority. For
example, the F-22 dropped a GBU-39 bomb while
traveling at supersonic speed. It is the
newest most advanced military aircraft in the
world with computerized controls and
vectoring jet engines.
In a totally new performance, in one minute
the craft zooms from 70 to 700 mph. A high
angle of attack and maneuverability never
seen before will be demonstrated. Also shown
are high-speed loops, low and high speed
passes, tail slides, and paddle turns. It
will appear that the craft is out of control
in a flat spin. The Raptor's can travel at
over Mach 2. As the world's most lethal
aircraft, it is more advanced than other
aircraft and the first next generation craft,
with almost UFO-like capabilities.
Also shown are F-104 Starfighters in close
dangerous formation, the F-16 Fighting
Falcon, the F-18 Super Hornet flying with the
F-4U Corsair, and the B-25. The show
includes a shockwave jet truck and the
AeroShell Aerobatic Team.
Also shown are the AH-64 Apache Attack
Helicopter, the Misty Blues Skydiving Team,
Air National Guard C-130, and heritage and
legacy flights.
Bomb bay openings are shown for both the
Raptor and the B-25.
The F-22 Raptor, F16 Fighting Falcon, and P51
Mustang fly together in close formation.
Although these airplanes are highly advanced,
numerous birds can be sighted flying with
them and at the same altitude as some.
The Dayton Ohio Air show takes place near the
National Museum of the United States Air
Force near Wright-Patterson AFB, the
birthplace of aviation.
