The Government Protection Bureau (GPB) like
other services of the Ministry of Internal
Affairs and Administration (Police, State
Fire Department, Border Guard) whose task it
is to uphold the law, protect the life and
health of citizens and to protect the
government and state administration are u
nder the supervision of the Minister of
Internal Affairs and Administration.
The Government Protection Bureau is a
uniformed and armed service carrying out
tasks in the field of protection of persons
and state installations.
As defined in the Act of 16th March 2001 the
GBP protects: the President of the Republic
of Poland, the Prime Minister, the Chairman
of Sejm, the Chairman of Senate, Deputy Prime
Minister, the Minister of Internal Affairs
and Administration and the Minister of
Foreign Affairs. GPB also protects former
presidents of Poland, official foreign
delegations during visits to Poland and other
persons vital to state security. According to
the above Act the GPB protects the following
installations: facilities used by the
President of Poland and the Prime Minister
and the Ministries of Internal Affairs and
Administration and the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. The Government Protection Bureau
assigns security officers to protect Polish
diplomatic posts.
The Government Protection Bureaus security
operations are focused on preventative
activities realized through:
- tactical planning of VIP and facility
protection
- intelligence gathering, analysis
- prevention of potential threats
- coordination during security operations
- security of facilities and installations
- personal protection
- regular training
