Here's about 20 paintings by Dee Dee. Most
are collaborations with Paul Kostabi or
Barbara... and go for $1,000 to $2,000 on
EBay. The best source for hard information
about Dee Dee's career as a painter can be
found in a 9 page interview with Paul Kostabi
and Heidi Follin published by Jari-Peka
Laitio in "Rock in Peace: Dee Dee and Joey
Ramone". Paul Kostabi, who can be seen on
drums in the 2001 Dee Dee Spa Club concert
footage and on drums at 2:00 in this clip,
estimates that "together we made, I think,
between four and five hundred." With Barbara,
Dee Dee did "maybe one hundred". And "on his
own, he probably did about ten to fifteen."
Reading between the lines tells you that even
with authentic art, Dee Dee may have done
little more than sign his name. Regardless,
the interview is sufficiently credible that
any Dee Dee work that can be connected to
either Kostabi or the Follin Gallery can be
assumed to be authentic.
