Present it!: Citroën C5
The new midsize Citroën C5 has been given a
makeover, and its new look is a big
improvement on the old model. The body is a
lot more dynamic, while its silhouette
provides even more Gallic chic and attitude.
With seven different motors on offer,
including four diesels, the new C5 is looking
to make a splash in the segment. Drive it!
took it through its paces.Compare it!: Opel
Agila vs. Daihatsu Sirion
Compacts usually aren't particularly pretty,
they don't give great performance, and they
aren't much fun to drive. Opel decided to try
to pep up that image with its new Agila,
giving it a more serious look and using
higher quality materials in production. The
Daihatsu Sirion puts more value on what's
inside: an air conditioner, cup-holders and a
connection for an MP-3 player are series in
the standard version. Both compacts sell for
around €10,000. We put them
head-to-head.Inside it!: Gas station robot
The world's first robotic filling attendant
has just been installed at a service station
in the Netherlands. With the 'Tankpitstop',
drivers no longer have to leave the car to
fill 'er up. A camera eye for locating the
gas tank cover and a mechanical arm allow the
robot to pump gas all on its own. It can even
determine the right kind of fuel for specific
makes of car.Admire it!: the Ferrari 430
Scuderia
Less is more! That could be the slogan for
the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The extreme version
of the 430 series is almost 100 kilograms
lighter than the standard model, which
translates into more fun and a more dynamic
ride. Excellent seats offer passengers plenty
of support, while the rest of the interior is
typically superior Italian design. The only
infotainment in this baby is the instrument
panel that tells you how fast you're going.
Drive it! took the 430 Scuderia out for a
spin.Examine it!: the Rosemeyer case -- the
Mysterious Death of a Racing Legend
It happened in 1938 during an attempt to
break the land speed record on the autobahn
between Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Three
hundred meters short of the finish line, the
Auto Union racer with Bernd Rosemeyer behind
the wheel rolled. The 28 year old was thrown
out of the cab, and was killed instantly. The
official version of events is that the car,
which was moving at 430 km/h, was struck by a
strong gust of wind. Now Martin Schröder,
the curator at the new Automotive Museum in
Hamburg, says that his research shows that a
technical glitch must have caused the
accident.Spot it!: the Las Vegas Touran
Carlos Correia wouldn't even consider buying
an off-the-peg Touran. Within a period of
about six weeks, he had his new car
customized into a multimedia sound-monster.
The "Las Vegas Touran" is equipped with 46
monitors that are fed by ten different
sources of video, while audio is taken care
of by 8 amplifiers powered by a mind-blowing
6,000 watts. Tags : Deutsche Welle DW-TV drive car automobile |

with the VW Golf R32
They are Germany's two racing compacts. The
Golf R32 generates 250 horsepower, making it
the most robust series Golf ever. Its rival,
the BMWi coupé packs 306 ponies. It is the
only compact with more horsepower than the
Porsche Cayman. Both have not been designed
with everyday driving in mind, but drive it!
put them to the test to see if they're better
suited to the Hockenheimring race track or
typical driving.spot it! Luxury Car Sharing

is putting fuel in the tank.taste it! Putting
the Renault Laguna Grand Tour to the test

introduced a station wagon version of the
Laguna, the Grand Tour. Its arrow shape gives
the Grand Tour a sporty feel, and inside the
4.8 metre long Laguna there is plenty of room
for five passengers. It also offers a lot of
cargo space: from 508 to 1593 litres. Buyers
can select from three gasoline-powered
models, as well as four diesels with sticker
prices between 23,950 and 34,000 euros.

Every year an unusual world championship is
held in the west German village of Silberg.
Thirty contestants take part in a
two-kilometer long race in bobby cars. The
competitors whiz through the village at
speeds of up to seventy kilometers. Adapting
the playthings to reach these speeds is an
art in itself: steering, axles, and wheel
bearings are all custom made from steel. It
is certainly not child's play. Tags : Deutsche Welle DW-TV drive car automobile Mercedes |
