| Major earthquakes in China over past 5 years |
 |
05-13-2008 18:59
China is located in one of the most active
seismic regions of the world and has suffered
numerous destructive earthquakes. We now take
a look at a chronology of some of the biggest
over the past 5 years.
In February 2003, an earthquake measuring 6.8
magnitude hit the sparsely populated Jiashi
county in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in
northwest of the country. 94 people died and
more than 200 were injured.
In November 2005, an earthquake measuring 5.7
magnitude jolted Jiangxi province in east
China, leaving more than two hundred and
fifty thousand people homeless.
In 2006, An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the
Richter scale struck Wenan county in north
China's Hebei province on July 4th. No
immediate casualties were reported.
And just 3 weeks later, another 5.1
earthquake hit southwestern Yunnan Province.
This time at least 22 people were killed and
more than 100 injured.
In December 2006, a series of tremors off the
southern coast of Taiwan Island killed two
people and injured 42. The quake measured 7.2
on the Richter Scale, and was followed by
over a hundred aftershocks.
In June 2007, Yunnan was hit again, by a 6.4
magnitude earthquake. Three people died and
more than five hundred were injured.
In March 2008, an earthquake measuring 7.2
rocked the remote northwestern region of
Xinjiang. The damage was limited.

This is an earthquake of at least 5.5! At
the mid-America earthquake center you can see
what would happen if the ground beneath you
started to shake! You might be surprised that
so many things inside the home can be
destroyed, even kill you, even though the
structure of the home stays intact. "The
risk of an earthquake is real" says Jeanne
Salvatore, senior vice president, Insurance
Information Institute. Earthquakes are not
covered by homeowners insurance, you need
separate insurance to cover earthquakes. The
Institute for Business and Home Safety says
there are easy and inexpensive steps you can
take inside your home to make it safer.
Anchor bookcases and filing cabinets to the
wall. Install ledge barriers on shelves.
Put heavy things lower. Harvy Ryland,
President of the Institute for Business and
Home Safety (www.ibhs.org) says earthquakes
injure and kill people, destroy their homes
and steal their jobs. The tragedy is that we
know how to reduce injuries to families and
their homes, and we are not doing it. Tags : earthquakes homeowners insurance disasters catastrophes |

There is a reason that this is happening,
it's because the world is coming to an end as
we know it, just as God told us it would in
many parts of the bible. (l Tags : EARTHQUAKE EARTHQUAKES UFO ALIENS NIBIRU NEW WORLD ORDER GOD |

| Southern Californian Earthquakes (1987) |
 |
Two reports from Television New Zealand.
The "Whittier Narrows" earthquake struck the
southern San Gabriel Valley and surrounding
communities of southern California at 7:42
a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time) on October 1,
1987.
The magnitude 5.9 earthquake was originally
assigned a magnitude of 6.0 but was revised a
few days later when additional data became
available. Its epicenter was actually in the
town of Rosemead, California, at a depth of
11 km.
The earthquake was caused by slip on a blind
thrust fault near the northern end of the
Whittier Fault, part of the Elsinore Fault
Zone, on a previously unknown fault
structure. There was no surface rupture. It
has been proposed that the event occurred on
an extension of the recently recognized
Puente Hills thrust system.
A magnitude 5.3 strike-slip aftershock
occurred three days later, on October 4,
causing additional damage.
Three people died as a direct result of the
earthquake. One death was of a Southern
California Edison worker buried by a
landslide in the Muir Peak area of the San
Gabriel Mountains while working with a crew
installing the footings for a high tension
power tower north of Pasadena, California.
Five other deaths are attributed indirectly
to the event. About $358 million USD in
damage resulted. Tags : california los angeles earthquake aftershock united states judy bailey news television new zealand tvnz |
