| Wuala - a distributed file system |

Google Tech Talks

ABSTRACT
After three years of research and development
on a distributed storage system, we are ready
to unveil the result: Wuala. Wuala is a new
way of storing, sharing, and publishing files
on the internet. Unlike traditional online
storage systems, Wuala is decentralized and
can harness idle resources of participating
computers to build a large, secure, and
reliable online storage. This enables its
users to trade parts of their local storage
for online storage and it allows us to
provide a better service for free. In the
talk, I will explain what Wuala is and how it
works, and I will also show a demo. All
attendees will also get an invitation code to
join the early alpha version.
Speaker: Dominik Grolimund
I am 26 years old and have studied computer
science at ETH Zurich. In 1998, I founded my
software company Caleido, and developed the
Caleido Address-Book, a professional contact
management software, of which over 35'000
licenses have been sold so far in
Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
In 2003, I did an exchange semester at the TU
Delft, the Netherlands, as part of the
Unitech exchange program, focusing on
business and management. In 2004, a six-month
internship followed with Siemens Corporate
Research in Princeton, New Jersey in the US,
where I worked in the 'Intelligent Vision &
Reasoning' department, developing a prod... Tags : google techtalks techtalk engedu talk talks googletechtalks education |

Google Tech Talks

ABSTRACT
2007 Google Seattle Conference on
Scalability:
Lustre File System
Speaker: Peter Braam, Cluster File Systems,
Inc. Lustre is a scalable open source Linux
cluster file system that powers 6 of the top
10 computers in the world. It is resold by
HP, SUN, Dell and many other OEM and storage
companies, yet produced by a small powerful
technology company, Cluster File Systems,
Inc. This lecture will explain the Lustre
architecture and then focus on how
scalability was achieved. We will address
many aspects of scalability mostly from the
field and some from future requirements, from
having 25,000 clients in the Red Storm
computer to offering exabytes of storage.... Tags : google howto seattle conference scalability |

| How To Configure Joomla's FTP File System Layer |

How To Configure And Enable Joomla's FTP File
System Layer
read more..............
***ONLY do this if you have errors after you
have installed Joomla. These errors will
likely first arise when you try to install a
new extension, such as a new template. In
fact, that is an excellent way to
pro-actively test if you need to enable the
FTP file system layer. Go to one of the
Joomla theme clubs that offer some free
templates, like Joomlashack.com, Shape5.com,
YouJoomla.com, RocketTheme.com, etc, and try
installing a free template.
I show you how to install a new template at
5:15 in this tutorial:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=sF_pkfJXsvU
If the install fails with errors, then, and
only then, will you need to enable the FTP
file system layer.
Note that in this tutorial I make an new ftp
account for my joomla instance to interface
with, but I realize that some hosts (usually
the free ones) don't let you make new ftp
accounts as they ONLY let you use the ONE ftp
account that they give you. If this is the
case, simply use THAT ftp account then.
Also, make sure you adjust the "ftp root"
setting appropriately. What it needs to know
is "Where is the Joomla instance (the folder
where joomla's index.php file is, ie
public_html) relative to the root of the ftp
account. The root of most default ftp
accounts is the parent of the public_html
folder, so you will probably have to adjust
by using the value "/public_html/" as the ftp
root parameter.
If in doubt, try "/" first. If joomla throws
an error when you apply, try "/publc_html/" Tags : alex west consulting alexwestconsulting joomla configuration host |

| Tahoe: A Robust Distributed Secure Filesystem |
 |
Brian Warner
Tahoe is a distributed application providing
secure and robust storage of
files and directories. Data remains available
despite massive failures of
individual servers. Tahoe is free software
(see http://allmydata.org), and is
scalable from a few nodes (backing up data on
your friend's machines) to a
thousand (running a large commercial backup
service).
Tahoe runs on top of Twisted and Python,
using the Foolscap library for
secure communications. It provides a RESTful
web API to GET, PUT, and DELETE
your files. User-friendly front-ends are in
development for Mac, Unix, and
Windows. Tags : python pycon |

| Filesystem Verify or Repair Failed: How to Put It Right |
 |
So I tried to install Boot Camp but the 32GB
partition took ages and when I thought it had
finished a grey tint came over the screen and
it told me to shut down. I nervously booted
back up and everything seemed fine; until I
went to copy across some videos from my
external hard drive and it failed because
there wasn't enough space. 32GB of Macintosh
HD had gone. I did a disk verify and it
couldn't complete so I'm gonna show you how
to get out of this sticky mess.
