| Sir Geoffrey Howe vs. Margaret Thatcher |
 |
As we near the end of the Tony Blair
Premiership, here's a reminder of what it was
like in the days leading up to Margaret
Thatcher's resignation. The man who gave her
the fatal push was her longest serving
Minister Sir Geoffrey Howe. His resignation
speech triggered a chain of events which
ultimately led to Margaret Thatcher's
resignation as Prime Minister. This clip is
from the BBC Nine O'Clock News. Tags : Sir Geoffrey Howe Margaret Thatcher Resignation 1990 |

| Geoffrey Warnock on Kant: Section 1 |
 |
The original audio had a lot of noise and
crackles. This is the best I could clean it
up (at the cost of some sound quality).
Contemporary philosopher Geoffrey Warnock
discusses the philosophy of anti-empiricist
Immanuel Kant, and his view that activities
and powers within the mind are the key to
knowledge, and that all knowledge is
appearance. Knowledge for Kant, is a complex
affair, in which knowing is acquired not just
through the senses, but through pure concepts
of understanding indigenous to the mind.
Countering Hume, Kant insists it is the mind,
not the senses, which unifies and organizes
sensory flow into meaning full definitions of
things. Tags : Bryan Magee Geoffrey Warnock Immanuel Kant Philosophy Mind Knowledge David Hume |
