Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Many blame LSD
for the permanent damage to Peter Green's
mental health, even Peter Green said "I took
one too many LSD trips and that puts me in
the 'Care and Attention' category." But the
drug let out the doom that was already in
there. From what I can gather he still spends
much of his time as a recluse, self-isolated
and on medication "I'm on some medication-- I
don't know what it is-- but it makes it hard
to concentrate. I rarely feel like playing."
There is a sense of loss experienced by the
rock community, loss of the talent that once
was. The split in the band happened after
Green claimed to have seen an angel holding a
starving Biafran child in her arms and he
wanted the band to work for charity to help
feed the starving. This of course meant that
he was mad. Mick Fleetwood flatly refused and
John McVie, although he intially agreed, as
Fleetwood put it "he soon came to his senses
when he realized that the proposition was
coming from a guy who'd just been given lots
of acid." So in 1970, faced with the band's
refusal to give all their money away, Peter
Green wrote the 'Green Manalishi' and left. I
heard he shaved off all his hair, gave
everything he owned away and lived as a tramp
for a while whilst he concentrated on his
descent into madness. Tags :PeterGreen'sFleetwoodMacGreemManalishi
In 2000 Green was diagnosed with testicular
cancer and underwent treatment that included
the removal of one of his testicles and a
section of afflicted lymph tissue The
severity of the surgery led Green to come
clean about his affliction His skewed sense
of humor reminded people of Andy Kaufman who
had recently been profiled in the 1999
feature `Man on the Moon` This and the
sensitive location of his cancer left many
hesitant to believe that his admission was
honest and not just another joke taken too
far Determined to make the best of his
second chance at life Green started the Tom
Green s Nuts Cancer Fund to aid similarly
stricken men and taped `The Tom Green Cancer
Special` which included a documented
chronicle of his operation and a public
service announcement in the form of a catchy
folk song encouraging scrotal self

Tom Green s increasing fame made it harder
for him to ambush people on the streets
leading him to target mostly senior citizens
and non English speakers After he was
diagnosed with testicular cancer in March
2000 he stopped production on his TV show
but he continued to appear on the channel via
reruns and other promotional materials He
made a one hour special on his ordeal with
cancer including graphic footage of his own
surgery The episode received wide critical
acclaim for revealing a vulnerable human
side of an otherwise juvenile television
personality In March 2002 he also starred in
and directed a one hour special called The
Tom Green Subway Monkey Hour where he
tormented strangers in Japan Tags :tomgreentomgreenhumorfuncomedytvshow
