| Louis XIV - Guilt By Association |

This video was inspired by the thaumatrope, a
toy popular in victorian times. I used a
camera and computers to play with the science
behind persistence of vision. The
thaumatrope toy had a picture of a bird on
one side of a card and an empty cage on the
other. These images were strung in the
middle of a piece of string held between both
your hands. when you spin them the bird
appears to be in the cage. There seems to be
a flicker threshold where images appear to be
combined in time.
wiki: "Thaumatropes were one of a number of
simple, mechanical optical toys that used
persistence of vision. They are recognised as
important antecedents of cinematography and
in particular of animation."
We cut to different band members in this
video every one,two or three frames creating
a flicker between multiple scenes. The
editing technique made it appear as though
the events were happening simultaneously.
I'm not happy with youtubes compression
because it processed the single frame edits
like a ghosting effect and didn't even
process our two frame edits. I will post a
link to a quicktime soon.
editor's note:
the video has 1,500 edits throughout the
roughly three minute song. Edit average was
10 edits every second.
We will be releasing an interactive version
of Guilt By Association in march of 2008.
