| Typhoon Hagupit Hits Southern China |
 |
CHAN:
A deadly typhoon made landfall on Wednesday,
battering densely populated south China.
Here's more on the story.
STORY:
More than 100-thousand people were evacuated
before the typhoon hit, but three people
still lost their lives in Guangdong Province.
The wind was so strong there that people on
the streets were literally blown away.
Some people are describing Typhoon Hagupit
as the worst storm to hit Guangdong in more
than a decade.
In several coastal cities in China, Hagupit
triggered a once-in-a-century storm tide. As
a result, water levels there rose to more
than 15 feet above the normal tide range. The
storm also swept through large part of
neighboring Guangxi Province.
Tropical storms in the region frequently
develop into typhoons that hit Taiwan, Japan,
the Philippines, and southern China during
this time of year. Tags : ntd ntdtv news |
