Claude Rains is great fun as the original
wedding crashing in this 1946 melodrama with
Bette Davis and Paul Henreid. He plays the
wealthy, egomaniacal composer Alexander
Hollenius who has been keeping pianist Davis
as his mistress for the past four years.
Henreid is tall, handsome and excessively
jealous long lost cellist boyfriend just
arrived from Europe. Davis attempts to keep
the affair from Henreid, while trying to get
Rains to accept an end to their relationship.
Hollenius: "Sooner or later you'll come
back to your old teacher. You'll realize
nothing really matters but music. Everything
passes but music . . . and me." Tags : Deception Bette Davis Claude Rains Hollywood Classic |
