This is Charley Straight's 1916 foxtrot
entitled Hot Hands, which was published by
Jerome Remick & Co. Charley Straight is now
beginning to be acknowledged by most ragtime
historians as 'the inventor of the novelty
piano style' as opposed to Zez Confrey.
Straight's compositions, which number close
to 30, were often given the subtitle
'fox-trot', 'rag' and 'one-step', because the
distinction of 'novelty piano solo' did not
exist at the time he was writing them. Two
of his solos, 'Rufenreddy' and 'Knice and
Knifty' were published in 1922 and became
hits despite the fact that they were credited
to Roy Bargy in addition to Charley Straight.
