Jim McKay, who relayed to Americans the
tragedy at the 1972 Munich Olympics with
accuracy and compassion, has died at the age
of 86. (June 8)As the face of ABC's Wide
World of Sports for more than 40 years ---
Jim Mckay was described by his colleagues as
the personification of class and style.He
covered competitions ranging from badminton
to barrel jumping ---and almost everything
else in between.But no doubt McKay will be
remembered for his reports from the 1972
Olympics in Munich...11 Israeli athletes were
taken hostage by Palestinian terrorists and
later killed when a raid to rescue them ended
in tragedy.It fell to McKay to deliver the
shocking news to Americans at home --- A job
he did with both accuracy and compassion,
using three simple words: "They're all
gone"The groundbreaking journalist passed
away Saturday of natural causes at his farm
