Oh, and I am sorry for the confusion
regarding the brand. I think I said

| Heath Ledger and Prescription Drugs |
 |
A somber look at how prescription drugs are
affecting us, in particular the dangerous
class of drugs called benzodiazepines. Heath
Ledger was reportedly taking Xanax and Valium
which are both benzodiazepines and Ambien, a
Z-drug, which has similar affects to
benzodiazepines. Is it possible these pills
could have inflamed his insomnia and anxiety?
When symptoms are not relieved or become
worse, a patient can often become
poly-drugged.
For more information visit
http://www.benzo.org.uk. There are many
support forums for those of you trying to
withdraw from benzodiazepines and Z-drugs
(Ambien, Sonata, Lunesta). These include
http://www.benzoisland.org and the Yahoo
Health Group:

We are currently working on a documentary
film about the dangers of benzodiazepines. We
are seeking personal stories from people who
have suffered from the use of doctor
prescribed benzodiazepines. If you have a
story to tell we would like to hear it.

It is estimated that in America last year,
nearly $2 trillion was spent on health care
-- and virtually all that money was spent on
treating disease.1 Despite this massive
expenditure on treatment, more Americans are
sicker than ever before with diseases that
are largely preventable: heart disease,
cancer, diabetes, arthritis, fibromyalgia,
and depression, to name a few.
Each year more money is spent on treatment,
mere patchwork, even though it has become
crystal-clear that treatments do NOT enable
you to live a longer, better life. So why is
the amount of money being spent on prevention
just a pittance compared with the amount
spent on treatment?
The answer is simple -- when you are sick it
is highly profitable to various giant
corporations. When you are well, it doesn't
profit them much at all.
Over the years, I have compiled many articles
that support evidence that the conventional
health system results in more harm than good.
But no one has ever analyzed and combined ALL
of the published literature dealing with
injuries and deaths caused by
government-protected medicine and reproduced
the information in such an easy-to-follow,
insightful and compelling medium -- that is,
UNTIL NOW.

Prescription Drugs: Killing More Than Pain;
Sponsor: Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task
Force Training (MCTFT)/CADCA; Program
Description: When America entered the new
millennium, it entered a new era in the world
of drug abuse. From the streets of the cities
to the secluded family homes in the suburbs,
prescription drug abuse is a problem that's
spilling out of pill bottles and into the
lives of millions all across our country.
Back in 2000, about 1.5 million Americans
abused prescription drugs. Two years later,
that number quadrupled -- to more than six
million. That's a 400% increase. Thousands of
people die each year because they overdose on
prescription medications. Many abusers think
they're an FDA-approved high, while others
become addicted after using powerful
painkillers to treat legitimate pain. During
this broadcast, learn how abusers are getting
their drugs and how law enforcement, doctors,
and pharmacists are fighting the problem.
Hear from recovering addicts, treatment
providers, doctors, robbery victims and more.
Prescription drugs kill much more than pain.
Program Objectives: Learn what prescription
drugs are abused. Learn how doctors can
better treat pain. See what would help
pharmacists spot forged and altered
prescriptions
See what tactics work for law enforcement
Find out what drug companies are doing
Know where to go for help. Prescription
drugs, a category of psychotherapeutics that
comprises prescription-type pain relievers,
tranquilizers, stimulants, and sedatives, are
among the substances most commonly abused by
young people in the United States.
Prescription drugs are readily available and
can easily be obtained by teenagers who abuse
these drugs to experience a variety of
desired effects. Often these young people are
unaware of the serious health risks involved
in abusing prescription drugs. Increasingly
younger adolescents obtain prescription drugs
from classmates, friends, and family members,
or they steal the drugs from school medicine
dispensaries and from people for whom the
drug had been legitimately prescribed.
Keywords: narcotics. Prescription drugs,
which are widely available and easy to
obtain, provide young people with an easily
accessible, inexpensive means of altering
their mental and physical state. Abusers may
experience a heightened sense of pleasure,
euphoria, drowsiness, increased energy, or
various other effects depending upon the
drugs they abuse. Young people who abuse
prescription drugs put themselves at risk of
experiencing dangerous side effects.
Prescription drugs--when taken as prescribed
by a physician--successfully treat a variety
of mental or physical conditions. However,
when abused, these drugs can alter the
brain's activity and lead to debilitating or
life-threatening health problems and result
in physical or psychological dependence.

| Joint Pains -- A Chinese Herbal Prescription (12) |
 |
JOINT PAINS - - A Chinese herbal
prescription.
Everybody has suffered from joint pains one
time or another except those at very young
age.
Causes of joint pains:
• Age will definitely worsen your joint
pains.
• Overexertion in work, sports or other
activities.
• Overexposure to cold, wind and damp such
as insufficient clothing to protect the body
against the elements.
• Not enough rest due to work, travel, and
other activities.
• Sudden change in weather especially
humidity.
• Uric acid from food, known as Gout in
Western medicine.
• A previous joint injury may result in
periodic pains after recovery.
• Flu or cold can cause temporary aches and
pains, which will disappear when the flu
passes.
Nature of joint pains:
• Long-term condition subject to occasional
flare-ups triggered by the causes described
above.
• Aging causes more pains, possibly
deformation of joints too.
• Joint pains accompanied by swelling are
more serious.
• Very difficult to cure joint pains
completely. Expect only improvements in the
following areas: intensity of pains,
duration, degree of swelling if any, and the
frequency of flare-ups.
• A certain degree of tiredness always
accompanies the pains.
• Painkillers or numbing with ice can only
reduce the pains but cannot get to the roots
of the problem.
External treatment:
• Gentle and slow exercise such as Tai Chi,
Yoga, or swimming.
• Heat treatment with pad or lamp.
• Massage by people or machine.
• Acupuncture.
* Various oitments with different
ingredients.
Internal treatment:
The Chinese approach is to enhance the blood
circulation with herbs. The Chinese name for
joint pains is 風濕病, literally
translated as "wind damp disease". This is
related to the observation that joint pains
become more acute in windy and damp weather
conditions. The herbs used to enhance blood
circulation will flush out the wind and damp,
as well as cold absorbed by the body from the
environment. Improved blood circulation also
helps reduce swelling. The effects will last
much longer than external treatment since the
herbs also strengthen the bones and tendons.
The basic prescription for joint pains is
focused on strengthening blood circulation,
bones and tendons. It also tries to expel the
environmental factors being absorbed into the
body such as wind, damp and cold:
1) Blood circulation
Sang Ji Sheng 桑 寄 生
Gui Zhi 桂 枝
Du Huo 獨 活
Wu Jia Pi 五 加 皮
2) Bones and tendons
San Qi 三 七 (田 七)
Niu Xi 牛 膝
Gu Sui Bu 骨 碎 補
Bu Gu Zhi 補 骨 脂
3) Expel wind/damp/cold
Jiang Huo 姜 活
Fang Feng 防 風
Bi Xie 箄 解
Ze Xie 澤 瀉
A combination of 12 herbs is recommended.
Drink one cup (8 oz) of herb tea a day,
preferably in the morning to allow time for
dissipation of excess heat.
This is just one formula with countless
variations depending on:
* How acute is the pain and where.
* Any swelling and where.
* How sensitive is your body to the
strengthening herbs.

| Digestive Disorder -- A Chinese Herbal Prescription (15) |
 |
DIGESTIVE DISORDER - - A Chinese herbal
prescription.
I use the term digestive disorder to include
various common symptoms as follows:
indigestion, gases, stomach pains, minor
ulcer, acid reflux, lack of appetite,
sensitivity to certain kinds of food,
diarrhea, constipation, etc.
Nature of common digestive disorder:
• Multiple symptoms usually occur with
different intensity.
• Some symptoms occur more often than
others.
• Symptoms usually disrupt the person's
eating habit.
• The disruption of eating habit in turn
may aggravate the symptoms, causing a
downward spiral.
Causes of common digestive disorder:
• Irregular eating habit.
• Over-consumption of food especially
spicy, greasy or sour type.
• Too restrictive a diet making the stomach
extra fragile and sensitive.
• Stresses at work or at home. Food is by
no means the only cause.
• Digestive disorder tends to be a delayed
or uncertain reaction, so it's hard to know
which is the real cause.
The digestive system is one of the most
sensitive organs deserving special attention
for good maintenance. Being neglected, it can
give you a lot of troubles. If you eat the
wrong kind of food, your digestive system can
vomit on you right away or give you diarrhea
later. It may make you feel terrible the rest
of the day. If your digestive system is weak,
an unpleasant event or circumstance can
trigger some kind of disorder or aggravate
existing ones.
Most people who suffer from digestive
disorder have an irregular eating habit,
usually eating meals at irregular times, or
eating while working. Another common habit is
eating too much at one time and not at all
some other times. These create undue pressure
on the digestive system and disrupt its
natural functional rhythm. The symptoms you
get are just the reactions of your digestive
system telling you that it is not happy with
your way of eating. Therefore the first step
is to cultivate a normal regular eating
habit. To put it simply, devote some time to
sitting down and enjoying regular meals with
a moderate quantity of food.
On the other hand, too much attention given
to the digestive system tends to create the
same kind of disorder. Many people are
sensitive to various kinds of food, resulting
in a long list of "foods to avoid". One thing
they may not notice is that this long list
will perpetuate the existing sensitivity of
the digestive system, making it even more
fragile, not stronger. One way to break this
downward spiral is to gradually build up more
strength into the digestive system. How? This
can be done by slowly increasing the variety
of food intake. Eat just a little bit of
those foods you avoid for some reason. This
won't kill you. You will be surprised that
your stomach can be trained to accept new
foods little by little. The goal is to cut
down the sensitivity and bring back the
robustness of your digestive system so that
you can enjoy as many kinds of food as
possible, and consequently, enhancing your
nutrition and your health.
The Chinese approach emphasizes the
strengthening of the digestive system rather
than trying to tackle the individual disorder
symptoms. There is a special term called
"Yang Wei" 養胃, which means to nourish the
stomach. When the digestive system becomes
more robust and able to handle an increasing
variety of food, the disorder symptoms will
occur less and less frequent. The following
herbal package is recommended:
1) Strengthen stomach and intestines
Dang Shen 黨參
Bai Zhu 白朮
Fu Ling 伏苓
Gan Cao 甘草
Sha Ren 沙仁
Mu Xiang 木香
Bai Kou Ren 白寇仁
2) Strengthen liver
Long Dan Cao 龍膽草
Gou Qi Zi 枸杞子
3) Help digestion
Zhi Shi 枳實
Fu Pi 褔皮
4) Reduce gas
Qing Pi 青皮
Ban Xia 半夏
A total of 13 herbs are used.
Drink one cup (8 oz) of herb tea a day,
preferably in the morning to allow time for
the herbs to work its way through.
This is just one formula with countless
variations depending on:
* How accurate the herbalist understands the
root cause.
* How sensitive is your stomach to the herbs.

| Menopause -- A Chinese Herbal Prescription (19) |
 |
MENOPAUSE - - A Chinese herbal prescription.
Menopause is a defining aging condition for
females. It's a natural process signifying
the end of reproductive ability. Besides
physical discomforts, menopause has a
significant emotional impact on women.
Combined with other stresses, menopause can
easily cause a depression.
Nature of menopause:
• It occurs around age 50, earlier for
some, later for others.
• The menopause period varies from a few
months to a few years.
• During the menopause period, menstruation
becomes more and more irregular, until it
finally stops altogether.
Symptoms of menopause:
• Hot flashes, especially at night or when
not busy
• Sudden mood changes
• High irritability
• Emotional ups and downs.
• Mild depression in some cases.
The right attitude:
• Menopause is a challenge in a woman's
life.
• Since it's a natural process with various
disturbances, the best approach is to
understand its nature and handle it with
coolness and grace.
• Do some gentle exercise everyday.
• Remember to keep busy and get your mind
off the symptoms when they flare up. The
following are recommended: work on your
hobbies, take a walk, see a friend, help
someone, etc.
• Don't let the symptoms get into your
nerves.
• Don't let menopause disrupt your normal
life. It will pass.
• Don't try to fight a natural process with
a strange method of human intervention. They
may bring adverse side effects.
The classical Chinese approach to menopause
is to alleviate the physical symptoms and
help the patient sail smoothly through this
transition period. An herbal prescription
should deliver the following:
1) Calming effect
Xi Yang Shen 西洋參
Bai Shao 白芍
Mai Men Dong 麥門冬
2) Cooling effect
Gou Teng 勾藤
Huang Qin 黃芩
Zhi Mu 知母
3) Menstrual balancing
Chuan Xiong 川芎
Dang Gui 當歸
Di Huang 地黃
Chi Shao 赤芍
4) Enhance blood circulation
Sang Ji Sheng 桑寄生
Niu Xi 牛膝
A total of 12 herbs are used.
Drink one cup (8 oz) of herb tea a day,
preferably daytime. You don't need the herb
tea for consecutive days. Drinking 10 to 20
cups of herb tea within a month will suffice
normally.
This is just one formula with countless
variations depending on:
* How accurate the herbalist understands your
symptoms
* How does your body respond to the herbs.
* The herbalist cannot shorten your menopause
period. With the right herbs,
the herbalist can make it much easier for
you to bear.
