Excellent documentary about the Progamer Hong
Jin Ho, known in the SC comunity as the Zerg
god [NC..]Yellow (later KTF_YellOw), one of
the best progamer ever. Well worth watching
even if you don't understand, I'll explain a
bit:
Shows his daily life, his family, the fans
waiting for him everywhere he goes, his
practice at the KTF team, and conversations
with many other progamers such as Nada and
Boxer, and what they think about him.
I'll edit this video later on if I get a full
translation. For now here are some key
translated information:
First shows a Finals match between NaDa and
YellOw... preparation, showing their
nervousness. He talks about how incredibly
sad he gets when he loses a game. He can't
even smile when people greet him.
Even at home, Starcraft is the big part of
life. His whole family watches the starcraft
channels. His mom didn't want him to make it
to the Finals because she was so stressed out
by his matches.
Yellow used to run away from home from his
hometown to Seoul to play at PC bangs all
day. When he came back, his mother thought he
came back from school; his brother was the
only one that knew.
Much later on Yellow and some other players
moved Seoul with big hopes and rented a place
together, it was very tough for them in the
beginning, they didn't have any money left
and sometimes could only efford one cup of
instant noodles per day!
Yellow's mom is a single parent, its been
tough for her raising 2 kids. His brother is
a university student, quite the image that
their mother wanted Yellow to be as well.
There was a scene where the whole team was at
a PC bang before the proleague finals, and
the pc bang owner said how difficult it
looked for the team. He noted that in
contrast to TV, these guys are having a hard
time.
It says that the team only eats 1 meal a day
sometimes (just ramen too). It also shows
MinGyu washing dishes, because he's the
youngest (and therefore does the black work
for his older partners) "I have to do this,
of course. I can't say anything to complain."
The life of a progamer is very hard, Yellow
actualy said that if his friends wanted to
become progamers, he'd ask them to
reconsider, no matter how good they were.
He's saying that it's really really
difficult, and on TV, they show only the best
parts of a progamer's life.
Here's the translation of the chat Yellow has
with Boxer (about 20min into the movie):
Yellow is saying how he saw Boxer practice:
"I always thought that I will do more than
him. If Boxer plays 10 games, I'll play 11.
If Boxer plays 20 games, I'll play 21. If he
goes to sleep at 1-am, then I'll go to sleep
at 2-am."
Boxer replies by saying that he thinks Yellow
is similar to him (with a little smirk and
voice tone that tells he thinks he can kick
Yellow's ass anyday). He then says: "I always
think that a progamer should have a rival, in
order to strengthen himself. I guess Yellow
is my rival :)"
