Yarn is held in left hand. The middle finger
(or index finger) is used to push the yarn
down and to the right, to where the right
needle can easily push it back through the
stitch. This method requires the fewest hand
movements of any purl method, and is
consequently the fastest (with the exception,
perhaps, of the "Combined Knitting Method" of
purling--see below). This is the method I use
in the Continental purl videos on this site.
Videos where the yarn is held in the left
hand, all have a pink icon.
This method of purling, when combined with
Continental Knitting (see my Knit Stitch
Video), makes for a very fast ribbing. Tags :knittingpurlknitstitchknittinghelpcontinental
Knitting off right needle onto left needle,
the purl stitch is demonstrated. The leading
leg of the stitch sits on the BACK of the
right needle in this method. See
www.leftoutknitter.com for more information
about knitting left handed and even a DVD! Tags :left-handedknitting
If you purl more loosely than you knit (most
knitters do), this causes problems when you
work the heel of a sock. Learn a way of
purling which guarantees nice snug purl
stitches - also idea for ribbing and for
defining the background for cables. Tags :CatBordhiloosepurlsNEWPATHWAYSknitsockheeleventension
