| L'héliostat de Silbermann |

Cet instrument, qui date de 1843, servait en
laboratoire de physique pour projeter, au
moyen d'un miroir, les rayons du Soleil sur
un point fixe, malgré le mouvement apparent
de cet astre. De la sorte on obtenait une
source lumineuse solaire stable, afin de
reproduire la plupart des expériences
classiques: eclairage d'un microscope, etudes
de polarisation, de spectroscopie, etc.
L'héliostat de Silbermann se compose
essentiellement d'un pied triangulaire muni
de vis calantes, d'une horloge et d'un
miroir...

| ATWT: Jake Silbermann: Ladies Man or Girlie Man? :) |

Here's your homowork assignment (yes, that
was a deliberate typ☺): Compare and
contrast Jake's character in these two
episodes. Note the common themes of alcohol
and dancing.
I apologize for using Arnold Schwazzenegger's
(SNL's) phrase, "girlie man," which some use
to insult gay men. I initially was going to
use "Ladies Man or Ladyman?" "Ladyman" is
Thai slang for gay men, especially effeminate
ones. But for some reason, I didn't think
that many of you know Thai slang...
For those who have forgotten, Luke is
paralyzed in the wheelchair because Noah's
father attacked him. Luke is coming off a
deep depression and Nuke just had a fight
(note his tearful eyes outside the club). His
horny mom, Lily, is making matters worse by
sleeping with Dusty, whom Holden hates.
Despite Dusty's questionable character (he's
cheating o n Lily with Emily), he's been a
good friend to Noah. Holden had initially
blamed Noah for Luke's paralysis so he had no
one to talk to but Dusty.

I wonder how much Jake got paid for such a
teensy guest role? He probably didn't even
need to rehearse those few lines. His buddy
did even less.
Being able to freely do other acting projects
is one reason why Jake might prefer to be
without a contract on ATWT. Although he
doesn't have the security that Van does, he
can earn income outside of ATWT. Van has to
get permission.

When I did neurological research, we jokingly
came up with a theory about gays being good
dancers. Remember LeVay's famous "gay
hypothalamus" study? The INAH-3 region was
found to be larger in gay men (and hetero
women) than in hetero men. Well, one of the
functions of the hypothalamus is regulating
circadian rhythms. So does the bigger INAH-3
give gays better rhythm? :)
To you med students and neuroanatomists: I
was kidding!!!
