| Cephas & Wiggins at 2007 Smithsonian Folklife Festival |
 |
John Cephas and Phil Wiggins, Piedmont Blues
duo extraordinaire, do what they do best, in
addition to explaining the musical difference
between Piedmont and Delta style Blues. They
then perform "I Got the Key to that Highway."
John Cephas, Bowling Green,
Caroline County, Virginia
Although he was born in Washington, D.C.,
John Cephas's family hails from the Piedmont
region, where he now lives. He has been one
of the major proponents of the Piedmont-style
blues guitar, and he was awarded a National
Heritage Fellowship in 1989.
Phil Wiggins,
Takoma Park, Montgomery
County, Maryland
John Cephas and Phil Wiggins met at the 1977
Smithsonian Folklife Festival and have been
playing together ever since. Wiggin's
harmonica complements Cephas' powerful
guitar. Together, the duo has performed
throughout Europe and the United States.
They have released nine CDs. Tags : blues piedmont music smithsonian virginia folklife cephas wiggins |

Come on down t' the big dig
Come on down t' the big dig
Come on t' the big dig
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues
The way it's goin' La Brea tar pits
I know you just can't lose
The new dinosaur is walkin' in the old one's
shoes
Come on down t' the big dig
Can't get around the big dig
This may be premature but if I'm wrong
You can just say it's the first time I was
happy t' be confused
Singin' the Smithsonian Institute blues
Alll you new dinosaurs
Now it's up t' you t' choose
It sure looks funny for a new dinosaur
T' be in an old dinosaur's shoes
Dina Shore's shoes
Dinosaur shoes
C'mon down to the big dig
You can't get around the big dig
C'mon to the big dig
Ya can't get around the big dig
