| Snoop Dogg "Cali Iz Active" Director's Cut ft Tha Dogg Pound |
 |
http://www.NGTV.com
From the archives of the DMV Channel on NO
GOOD TV comes the return of one of the most
legendary gangsta-rap groups in history --
Tha Dogg Pound! Only this time around, West
Coast legends Kurupt and Daz Dillinger have
company -- Bigg Snoop Dogg himself!
This album features Snoop as an official
member and executive producer of Tha Dogg
Pound, providing that classic g-funk flow we
all know and love. Combined with Daz's
incredible flow and Kurupt's thoroughbred
lyricism, this album is a guaranteed banger!
In the booth, the Dogg Pound brought out all
their A-List clientele for the album,
including appearances by Diddy, Ice Cube,
Paul Wall, David Banner, Nate Dogg and more.
Supplying the beats are super-producers
Battlecat, Jazze Pha and Swizz Beatz among
other noted hitmakers. The album also
includes the bangers "Sittin' On 23z" and the
title track "Cali Iz Active".
In the beginning, Daz and Kurupt were two of
several artists on the Death Row roster. Both
made minor contributions to Dre's The Chronic
before making substantially larger
contributions to Snoop's Doggystyle. In
fact, their omnipresence on Snoop's album
spawned the opportunity to capitalize on that
album's success; it was no surprise then when
Death Row tagged Daz and Kurupt as Snoop
protégés, tagging them tha Dogg Pound for
promotional reasons. Granted, Snoop played a
large role in tha Dogg Pound, as did Nate
Dogg, but with the release of Dogg Food, it
was undeniably clear that Daz and Kurupt
needed no mentoring.
Either way, it wasn't long before Daz and
Kurupt embarked on full-fledged solo careers.
Kurupt had success with Tha Streetz Iz a
Mutha while Daz released R.A.W. Yet with
Dre's return in 2000 and the steady West
Coast rap renaissance that began as a result,
Death Row dug through their vaults — as
they had done for similar Snoop and 2Pac
releases — assembling what would eventually
surface as tha Dogg Pound's 2002. The album
featured appearances by the likes of 2Pac,
Xzibit, Nate Dogg, a remix of Jay-Z's "Change
the Game" featuring the Roc-A-Fella clique,
and a Dr. Dre-produced lead single, "Just
Doggin."

WHO RUNS THE YARD?
106 & PARK HOSTS TERRENCE & ROCSI GET TO
STEPPING!!!
IT'S THE WEST VS. THE SOUTH!
OCTOBER 20TH IS WHEN THE ACTION BEGINS
Come witness a weekend of stepping at its
best when California's top
African American Greek step teams battle it
out against some of the best
step teams from historically black colleges
and universities during the
2007 Who Runs the Yard?, Saturday, October
20th. The event kicks off
Tuesday, October 16th at Hollywood's World
Famous Comedy Store with an all
Greek and HBCU Comedy Explosion hosted by
BET's Joe Clair ("Take the
Cake") and features some of today's hottest
and most hilarious comedians.
Then, Saturday come watch some in your face
basketball during the All-Star
Celebrity Basketball Classic at the Home
Depot Center in Carson, CA.
Celebrity players include Tony Rock ("All of
Us"), Kevin Hart (Soul Plane,
MTV's Celebrity Rap Challenge), and Wildin'
Out's Corey Holcomb and DeRay
Davis. Doors open @ 3pm and the game starts
at 4pm. and will be
immediately followed by the main event.
TheWho Runs the Yard? National
Step Competition will be hosted by BET
favorites Terrance J and Rocsi of
the popular video show "106 and Park."
Who Runs the Yard? was created by Jeru
Tillman of Big Game Ventures. He
wanted to organize a west coast competition
between various step teams
that rarely meet. "We are making history as
the first large-scale
national step show ever held in Southern
California. We've invited
historically black college fraternity and
sorority step teams to compete
against West Coast step teams to raise the
stakes. So now instead of
teams competing against each other
regionally, national pride is at stake.
It's going to be crazy with plenty of
entertainment for youth and young
adults. Consider it Stomp the Yard on
steroids," says Jeru.
Ten hard stepping Greek fraternity or
sorority teams are expected to
compete for the grand prize of $10,000. Come
see the men of Kappa Alpha
Psi (Grambling State) and the brothers of
Omega Psi Phi (Florida A&M) when
they come to California to represent for the
out-of-state fraternities. A
special invitation has been extended to the
Southern California Alpha Phi
Alpha All-Stars, winners of the 2007 Long
Beach State Step Show. More
teams will be announced in the coming weeks.
The HBCU teams selected to compete will be
flown to California free of
charge. The day before the competition the
teams will be treated to a day
of fun at a local amusement park and a
pre-party just for them. Who Runs
the Yard? is being sponsored by Time Warner
Cable, BET and Paramount Home
Video. For more information check out
