In Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales crowds watch
competitors swim up and down a 133 meter bog
filled with sulphurous, weedy water. Some
wear silly costumes but all entrants must not
use conventional swimming strokes, relying on
flipper power only.

The Welsh town of Llanwrtyd Wells played host
to the World Mountain Bike Bog Snorkelling
Championships on 5 July.
A popular spin-off from the World Bog
Snorkelling Championship the competition was
first launched in 2005 and combines the weird
and wacky elements of the August event with a
gruelling physical challenge. Video courtesy

Yes, it is jost a ditch full of foul water in
the middle of a sheep field in Wales. And
some people snorkeling their way down the
length of it. Tags :bogsnorkelingstrangesportsWales
Finally got an underwater camera, but first
time filming so sorry about the shakey camera
work!! This video is at Moore Reef, which is
about a 2 hour boat ride from Cairns. You can
go here yourself, just go to
www.cairnswebs.com.au and click Tours, then
Click the Sunlover Reef Tours. They go to
this reef daily - Highly Reccommended, it's
1000 times better than the video! Tags :greatbarrierreefcairnssnorkellingscubadivingbookingscoraladventurequeenslandaustralia

August 1998
It's wet, it's wild, it's the weird Welsh
sport of Bog Snorkelling.
There are few things the people of Llanwrtyd
Wells, Wales, prefer to do on a Sunday
afternoon than slip-on a wet-suit and take a
dip in a freshly dug peat bog. The rules are
simple - the quickest man, woman or child to
cycle from one end of the bog to the other is
crowned with the dubious honour of 'World
Mountain Bike Bog Snorkelling Champion.' With
only a snorkel protruding from the mire it's
a taxing sport. Veteran snorkeller explains
the science: "You just keep pedalling for all
you're worth." The addition of a Mountain
Bike to the bog snorkelling proceedings was a
twist dreamed-up by the local Publican. A
keen inventor of extreme sports he's
currently working on his other favourite: the
annual man vs. horse challenge. Confident of
his theory that a man can beat a horse over
22 miles, he's not put off by the horses 18
year run of victories. We wait to see if the
wacky pastimes of Llanwrtyd Wells succeed in
ousting snowboarding as Europe's favourite
extreme sport. Tags :journeymanpicturesbogsnorkellingwalesUK
