| W. Oregon Sara Tucholsky first HR - ultimate sportsmanship |
 |
Western Oregon Sara Tucholsky hit her first
career HR with the help from Central
Washington - ultimate sportsmanship. She
tore her ACL running back to 1st as she
missed it initially. Ump she if didn't run
the bases by herself, the HR wouldn't count.
If her teammates touched her, it would be
void.
The opposing team saw her pain and did the
unexpected, they picked her up and helped her
touch each base.

| Touching Them All |

When Western Oregon senior Sara Tucholsky hit
her first career home run in one of the last
games of the softball season, something odd
happened. She missed the bag at first and
when she doubled back to touch it, her knee
gave out. Her teammates were unable to help
her around the bases so it looked like her
only career home run would turn into a
single. Then a member of the other team, a
senior with knee problems of her own, said:
"Excuse me, would it be OK if we carried her
around and she touched each bag?" Tags : Sara Tucholsky Character Sportsmanship |

ESPY ESPY ESPY!
With two runners on base and a strike against
her, Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon
University uncorked her best swing and did
something she had never done, in high school
or college. She hit her first home run, which
cleared the center field fence.
But it looked like the shortest of
dreams-come-true when she missed first base,
started back to tag it, and collapsed with a
knee injury.
She crawled back to first but could do no
more. The first base coach said she would be
called out if her teammates tried to help
her. Or, the umpire said, a pinch-runner
could be called in, and the homer would count
as just a single.
Then, members of the Central Washington
University softball team stunned their home
crowd in Ellensburg by carrying Tucholsky
around the bases Saturday so the three-run
homer would count - an act that contributed
to their own elimination from the playoffs.
