| Weird Al Yankovic - Hardware Store - Music Video |
 |
As part of my BA we have to create a "pop
promo/music video". For this I've picked
Weird Al's awesome "Hardware Store" After
many long nights working on storyboards and
anamatics (see my other videos) we finally
had a final piece put together. Which I'm
very happy to say got a rather good mark of
80.
Update: I should probably point out that 80
is a VERY good mark in UK Universities,
whilst it is out of 100, 70 is a 1st which is
the best you can get (3rd, 2:2, 2:1, 1) so I
got the best, then some.
There are no swears in this song, and yes you
do hear "automatic circumciser" which isn't
what you think it is. Google for the full
lyrics.
You may of seen some of the many "Google
Images" based videos for this song. This is a
live action "real" version, the only one I
know of in existence too. It was created
entirely from scratch, filmed, edited and
post production by myself, Dave Hartly &
Christian Allan. Enjoy what we've created, I
hope you like it.
Oh and finally a HUGE thank you to everyone
who has watched, rated and commented on this
video, its been hugely more popular than I
could ever of imagined, glad you guys like
it. Tags : Weird WeirdAl Al Werid Yankovic Hardware Store Music Video Live Real Action Queen Bohemian Rhapsody |

| MonetDB/X100: a (very) fast column-store |

Google Tech Talks
January, 15 2008
ABSTRACT
MonetDB/X100 is a second-generation
column-store prototyped at CWI, targeted
at analysis-heavy data management tasks such
as data warehousing and
information retrieval.
In this overview talk I will outline the
research challenges, novel
techniques and results from this project. The
ideal is to close the existing performance
gap between hand-coded
applicationas and database systems using
architecture-conscious techniques,
and by carefully exploiting the bandwith
strengs of modern hardware (and
avoiding its latency weaknesses).
The novel techniques presented encompass
expressing relational operators as
vector operations, lightweight compression on
the border between CPU cache
and RAM, sequential-access optimized database
design and I/O bandwidth
sharing.
