Sub-Prime Mess Means Digital Woes
The sub-prime mortgage mess has many
implications: new barriers to getting a
mortgage, the tumbling stock market, and yes,
maybe trouble getting investment dollars for
that cool start-up.
In the digital economy, the shake-out in the
mortgage industry could make a big hit on
online advertising with troubled marketers in
the home finance market, like Countrywide.
Larry Dignan at ZDNet weighs in with an
analysis as does Rafat Ali over at
PaidContent.
To understand how this all has happened,
here's my interview John Vogel at the Tuck
School of Business at Dartmouth. Professor
Vogel is an expert on the real estate
industry. He gives a sobering overview on the
root and implications of the sub-prime
crisis. I was up in Hanover, New Hampshire
earlier this month for this interview.
Here at Beet.TV, we're going to explore more
business strategy and finance issues in the
weeks ahead. These things affect us all.
Stay tuned.

LYRICS
There's a fine, fine line
between investment grade and junk
There's a fine, fine line
between liquidity and a crunch
And you never know 'til you settle up
if the credit is benign
There's a fine, fine line
between a gain and a painful decline
There's a fine, fine line
between the theories and the facts
And there's a fine, fine line
between what's solid and what cracks
And now my holdings badly misbehave
and my losses aren't confined
'Cause there's a fine, fine line
between a gain and a painful decline
For years I piled on debt
and smiled as my profits soared
(I even bought a solid gold toilet, yeah)
Now I see that I can't
be levered this much any more
(panicking, I'm panicking, I think I've
soiled myself)
Bernanke, please save me,
cut rates, oh I implore...
(please, even 50 bps)
There's a fine, fine line
between a bull and a bear
And there's a fine, fine line
between delight and despair
I'm hoping I'll avoid the pain to come
from trades yet to unwind
But there's a fine, fine line
between a gain
and a crippling, crushing,
mortally wounding decline
(help me)

The Subprime Blues ©2007
A couple years ago I went to buy a home
I called up on an ad on the telephone
The Realtor told me now is the right time to
buy
She said "Owning a home is American as apple
pie"
The place, I saw, too good to be true
On the west side of town it even had a view
Something should have told me that I was a
fool
I didn't know about the Subprime Blues
The broker said to make an offer on the spot
She said "Do you have money", I said "I do
not"
She said "That don't matter, I know who you
should call
Countrywide's number's right here on here on
the wall"
I rushed to their office right on time
The mortgage broker told me he was, on my
side
He said "I solve your problem buddy don't you
wait"
I git you a loan with an adjustable rate
How can these payments be so low
The balance rises every month on what I owe
Needed some furniture, a new TV
No problem borrow more with Home Equity
I can't make my payments anymore
They sold my damn loan into a CDO
There's no one to talk to on the other side
This whole dang thing is hurtin my pride
I gotta get away, away, away, away from here,
I'm going downtown to drown myself in beer
I wake up in the morning all I feel is fear
The foreclosure date is getting near
I borrowed more money than I could pay
The Subprime Blues have come my way
The loan, I took, it was cursed
The Real Estate bubble, now it has burst
I'm in, the school, of hard knocks
I'm gonna end up in a cardboard box Tags : Subprime Mortgage Politics Ecomomy CDO Foreclosure Blues Comedy |
