| DJ WOODY 2002 Winning World Vestax set practice |
 |
(recorded September 2002)
This is footage of Woody practicing his set
for the 2002 World Vestax Championships in
the Woodwurk studio.
The set starts with a drumming solo using a
skip-proof drum beat loop and then goes into
a demonstration of some of Woody's
'Woodpecker scratch' combo's.
Then there's a demo of Woody's 'Thumb-drums'
idea, ie minipulating 2 turntables
simultaneously with the same hand (one with
the beat and one with the scratch sample).
The set then goes into his horn routine over
Ugly Ducklings 'Just a little Samba' beat.
The end of the set is Woody's infamous
'Double tone arm technique', he places two
tone arms on one turntable and rocks the
first ever true single deck beat juggle with
a bit of double needle dropping for good
measure.
With this 5 minute routine Woody designed a
set that from start to finish demonstrated
more original techniques and styles than any
other battle routine you'll see, and in a
time when everyone thought it had all been
done. This went on to win him World Vestax
Extravaganza. Tags : DJ Woody turntablism turntablist scratch scratching juggle woodpecker hip hop lee woodvine music |

| DJ Woody 2001 Vestax Extravaganza LA. |
 |
This set was filmed in 2001 at the Vestax
World Finals in Los Angeles.
The routine comprises of three separate
parts, each used separately a week later in
San Francisco to win Woody the World ITF.
The first is Woody's 'Mimmick' scratch set
where he first performs a regular scratch
pattern and then repeats the exact pattern
but using no-fader techniques, the patterns
get increasingly harder and feature extensive
combo's using his trademark 'Woodpecker'
scratch, it finishes with his comedy
'Ketchup' scratch.
The second part is a beatjuggle using a track
from the P.U.T.S, here he concentrates on
beat construction and fucking up different
tempo's.
The third and final part is a juggle using a
track by UK rappers the Numbskulls, for this
set Woody works with the tables in the L
formation in order for rapid 33/45 button
manipulation with the thumbs.
With each deck pitched differently this
technique allows Woody to get 12 notes from
the original 3. This set is very much an
experiment with pitch juggling. Tags : dj woody woodvine scratch vestax innovate beatjuggle turntables turntablism tablegimps oneself burnley lancashire |
